CLEARFIELD CITY CORPORATION Facilities Maintenance Technician in CLEARFIELD, Utah

*The starting salary for this position ranges from $21.31 to $23.55 per hour, depending on experience. 

 

GENERAL PURPOSE

 

Performs a variety of full performance skilled maintenance duties including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting and general grounds and custodial care, related to the general maintenance and repair of city owned and operated buildings and facilities, including HVAC and other mechanical systems.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager.

Examples of Duties:

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

 

Performs a variety of skilled duties related to the construction, maintenance and repair of city buildings and facilities; assists in the installation of electrical systems, backup power systems, switching equipment, etc.; maintains repairs, replaces electrical components, maintains light fixtures, outlets, extension poles, connections, switches and routine wiring; monitors mechanical apparatus such as motors, belts, pulleys, etc. to assure proper operation.

 

Performs preventive maintenance on facility mechanical and electronic systems and equipment such as plumbing, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, fire alarm and security systems, pneumatic and electronic controls and domestic hot water systems and pumps.

 

Performs general maintenance on various types of buildings, equipment and systems, i.e., motors, pumps, valves, bearings, floats, pulleys, belts, switches, relays, plugs, light ballasts, light photocells, fuses, circuit breakers, timers, transformers, wiring, door hardware floor and ceiling repair, drywall, painting, caulking, concrete repair, etc.

 

Performs installation and repair of plumbing piping and fixtures, performs routine plumbing; clears and cleans drain obstructions; maintains sinks, urinals and toilets.

 

Performs general carpentry; maintains physical aspects of city buildings such as windows and door frames and woodwork; fabricates shelving, repairs furniture; repairs and replaces locks.

 

Assists in performing general upkeep and repairs to pool equipment; assures proper system operation for the calibrated release of chemicals into the swimming pool; maintains pool filtration and ozone system; changes out chemical lines; monitors devices to assure efficient operation; maintains various monitoring and safety devices designed to prevent or control fire, injury or property damage; assists in cleaning chemical lines and the pool; performs inspections and makes needed adjustments.

 

Monitors status of buildings and facilities regarding safety standards.

 

Operates snowplow or blower or other similar equipment as needed; perfo rms custodial duties when required.

 

Performs preventive maintenance on sports equipment, treadmills, weight machines, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1.  Education and Experience:

     

A.   Graduation from high school; plus two (2) years relevant training.

AND

B.   Three (3) years of experience performing the above or related duties,

OR

C.   An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Qualifications/Information:

Essential Functions, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

 

Ability to apply construction techniques and troubleshooting methods related to carpentry, plumbing, and electrical wiring; knowledge of methods, materials, equipment used in general construction and custodial work; operation and minor maintenance and repair of plumbing fixtures; electrical and mechanical systems, boilers, small motors, etc.; DDC (direct digital controls) and PLC (program logic controls) preferred; a variety of hand and power tools such as hammers, saws, wrenches, sanders and other tools common to building maintenance and repair, HVAC and filtration systems; interpersonal communication s ills.

 

Ability to determine needs for services and supplies necessary to carry out tasks; develop effective working relationships with supervisors and co-workers; work independently; deal effectively with stress caused by workload and time deadlines.

Special Qualifications:

Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License and meet the requirements of the city's Motor Vehicle policy.

Must be a Certified Swimming Pool Operator or become one within six months of hire.

Subject to call-back in emergency situations and overtime including holidays and weekends.

Work Environment:

 

Tasks require a variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stopping, lifting, sitting, reaching; sit, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  Periodic exposure to high workplaces, volatile materials, electrical hazards, noise, slippery surfaces, fumes, and toxic materials.  Frequent local travel required. Must be able to normally lift 35 to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 100 pounds.
