WestRock Company Safety Coordinator in Claremont, North Carolina

The Opportunity:

The Safety Coordinator will be a site resource in assisting with development, and continuous improvement of programs and systems that support environmental, health and safety excellence. This key role will partner with the Safety Manager to ensure the facility meets or exceeds legislative, corporate and industry requirements, as well as best practice standards. The Safety Coordinator is directly responsible for the coordination and execution of all Health & Safety and H&S training at the site.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Responsible for all safety related training for the manufacturing department employees. This includes Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO), SPCC, Fall Protection, General training, etc.

  • Attend WestRock safety training as needed.

  • Assist with or facilitate all aspects of the Monthly Safety Meeting including the PowerPoint presentation and any other related activities. Organize and communicate all key points from each meeting to plant employees.

  • Update and review all Job Hazard Analysis (JHA's), Safety Observation and Recognition (SOAR), Hazard Recognition and Control (HRAC), Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Safety Assessments, and various updates related to WestRock Displays Safety Program.

  • Update and enter safety information in the Benchmark Gensuite System.

  • Support the management team with completion of in-depth investigations and root cause analysis for any site-based incidents to determine suitable preventative control measures and assist in implementation of those actions

  • Assist with compliance regarding Safety Excellence System (SES) audits.

  • Data entry and maintenance of: Safety Matrix, Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO), Safety suggestions, electronic files, safety contest and games files, etc. Responsible for the completion weekly and monthly safety audits.

  • Assist and support the activities of the Emergency Responce Program.

  • Update and review that WestRock is in compliance with the electrical qualifications list, welding qualification list, lanyard/harness inspections, Genie Boom inspections, ladder inspections, new and existing equipment safety checklist, confined space list, and AED.

  • Update and revise safety specific spreadsheets.

  • Participate in monthly safety conference calls.

  • Establish and maintain a user friendly hard copy filing system for safety.

  • Responsible for heading and following up on initiatives related to safety such as machine guarding and LOTO pictures.

  • Maintain and update Safety Bulletin Boards.

  • Environmental duties as assigned.

  • Responsible for the overall Safety and cleanliness of equipment and area.

  • Work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with company policies and procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you need to succeed:

  • High school diploma or GED minimum

  • Preferred experience in a warehouse, distribution, or manufacturing environment.

  • Attention to detail and capability to analyze data and make sound conclusions.

  • Strong aptitude for organization, prioritization and managing multiple tasks at the same time.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal and able to conduct Monthly Safety Training meetings with all shifts as required.

  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
