Michelman Technician I, Process in Cincinnati, Ohio
Description
To be wildly successful in this role, we look for you to combine your creativity and critical thinking in collaborative ways to help us develop new products and new processes to serve current and future customers in a truly innovative fashion. This hands-on role requires high mechanical aptitude, advanced problem-solving skills, and boundless curiosity.
Reporting to a Senior Process Engineer in a three-person team, you will work closely with multi-skilled and experienced coworkers daily. To develop new products and processes, you will find yourself working with project teams that come together and disband as new products and projects are delivered. Each project team will look to you for your knowledge of batch chemical processing, problem-solving, and ability to solve complex problems.
Primary Responsibilities
Operate pilot units to execute new product development trials as well as conduct routine sample production
Collaborate in a team of engineers and chemists to develop new products
Troubleshoot technical issues including both mechanical and controls
Use observational skills to translate observation into recommendations and improvements
Perform related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates
Other
Work may require long periods of standing.
Work will require lifting weights as much as 50 pounds to waist level, short term
Use of PPE equipment and safety shoes required from as needed.
Critical Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with an ability to analyze a situation and then make recommended changes.
Hands on ability to tear down equipment and complete light maintenance
Understand basic controls including tuning of PID loops and troubleshooting electrical and instrumentation issues
Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment.
Understanding of basic chemical principles around liquid blending, emulsification, and acid/base reactions.
Actively engages in our safety culture
Proficient in the operation of analytical equipment
Adaptability to changing priorities that meet customer and business requirements
Willingness to work off shift hours as needed.
Demonstrated creativity in thought as evidenced in work supported by concrete examples.
Good written and oral communication skills. Ability document trials and write procedures.
Must be able to multitask i.e., work on more than one thing at a time without error
Good people skills and demonstrate a collaborative attitude
Education and Experience
Three years or more experience in batch chemical processing or three years of more experience in mechanical trades.
High school diploma or GED required. Coursework or apprenticeship in mechanical trades or chemical processing preferred.
Work Hours
Michelman’s standard work hours for this role is Monday – Friday from 7am – 3:30pm ET.
