UC HEALTH LLC New Grad Extern in CINCINNATI, Ohio

UC Health is hiring a New Grad Extern for the Solid Organ Transplant Unit for First Shift 7:00a-7:30p at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Solid Organ Transplant/Renal is 24 bed unit. (1 bed designated as a pre-op bed for those patients being called in for a transplant) UCMC performs Liver, Kidney and Pancreas transplants. The kidney program has a living donor transplant program. All transplant patients, regardless of when their transplant was performed are admitted to 8CCP. This is due to the special care and education necessary for transplant patients. Nursing care is concentrated on recovery from transplantation, focusing on mobility, monitoring of I & O's, pain management and medication administration and education. Transplant patients are always recovered and monitored in the SICU prior to coming to 8CCP. Transplant patients can also be admitted from TACU, clinic, or directly from home. The patient ratio is 1:4 or 1:6 patients. This position will train. New graduates are welcome to apply! Minimum Required: ADN, BSN, or MSN. | BLS. | No experience required. Preferred: Prior experience as an Unlicensed Assistive Personnel in Patient Care Services. REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Must have graduated within the last 6 months. Required to attend all scheduled NCLEX review sessions offered by UC Health Basic computer skills Effective written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated knowledge of Nursing theories and concepts, and understanding of standards of professional practice Competence in basic patient care tasks (those allowed by law to be performed by unlicensed assistive personnel)Patient Population: Engages in population appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Supports implementation of the plan of care under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Patient Care- The New Graduate and NCLEX Review may perform the following under the delegation and supervision of a Registered Nurse: Observes for changes in patient condition, and reports these to the licensed nurse. Collects clinical data, records these findings in the patient's medical record, and reports deviations or significant changes to the licensed nurse. Performs treatments and procedures as delegated by the licensed nurse after successful demonstration of competence. Responds appropriately during medical emergencies; initiates CPR, assists in obtaining equipment and supplies. Reinforces education by the RN/LPN on use of clinical equipment. Reinforces teaching provided by the RN and other disciplines. Communication: Communicates patient observations to the licensed nurse in a timely and appropriate manner. Orients patients and visitors to room/unit and updates the white boards appropriately. Communicates data to the licensed nurse regarding measurements and patient data. Documents and communicates with the licensed nurse treatments and procedures performed under the scope of delegation Responds to and utilizes nurse call system.
