Michelman Engineer, Process - Quality Assurance in Cincinnati, Ohio

General Summary

Drive continuous improvement and delivery systemic quality improvements to Manufacturing. Closely collaborate and the share best practices between R+D, Manufacturing, and Process Engineering. Develop solutions to resolve variability and deliver consistency of quality demonstrated in statistical analysis.

We are looking for someone to lead complex problem solving, rooted in chemistry and engineering, in the pursuit of evidence-based continuous improvement. To be wildly successful in this role, we look to you to showcase your curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and communication in facilitating structured problem solving with cross-functional teams. A deep understanding of statistics is helpful, especially statistical process control. In addition, we look for you to define, achieve, maintain, and improve our Quality Management System, per annual and quarterly strategic planning.

This on-site role is based in Cincinnati, OH, with support to two manufacturing locations. This role reports into our regional Process Engineering and Quality Manager, who oversees manufacturing and administrative functions, which are included in our Quality Management System.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Drive metrics, root cause analysis, and corrective actions for problem batches and customer complaints

  • Drive, implement, and support quality improvement projects

  • Identify work-off solutions for non-conforming products (blend-off process)

  • Interface with a cross-functional group including, but not limited to senior leadership, business units, laboratory, research and development, and plant personnel

  • Coach quality best practices involving systemic fixes, eliminating waste, and error-proofing

  • Provide Quality System Management support for Cincinnati facilities

  • Ensure compliance with established good manufacturing practices (GMPs)

  • Support the ISO and Quality System processes for the site with a cross-functional teams including, but not limited, to senior leadership, business units and sales department, laboratory, research and development, and plant personnel

  • Participate in the data preparation and reporting of the respective KPIs and management reports.

  • Responsible for the preparation and delivery of QMS and Quality related training & coaching.

  • Will lead and participate in internal and external audits

  • Responsible for reviewing analytical results of other QC staff.

  • Assemble and prepare completed data packages for submission to Management and/or Customers as required.

  • Leads Control Plan & PFMEA Development.

Critical Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to perform root cause analysis and facilitate countermeasures

  • Ability to document processes with multiple decision points

  • Proficiency with statistical process control methodology

  • Strong project management skills

  • Background in using data analysis tools, e.g. creating and analyzing run charts, Pareto, exception reporting, and scorecards

  • Willingness to work in a team environment

  • Ability to think independently and handle projects through to completion

  • Proven ability to follow procedures and handle multiple tasks at the same time with a positive attitude and outcome

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

  • Potential for periodic international travel

  • Potential for off-shift work assignments

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor degree in Chemistry, Engineering or related field

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in an industrial setting

  • Prefer quality control and/or quality assurance experience

  • Liquid Batch Processing and/or Emulsion Chemistry experience preferred

  • Quality system experience, e.g. ISO-9000, Kosher, GMP

  • Continuous Improvement Methodology preferred, e.g. Lean Six Sigma

Work Hours

Michelman’s standard work hours for this role are Monday – Friday from 8 am – 5 pm EST.
