AmeriCorps Program Manager - "Zoo Unto Others" Service Program The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden's AmeriCorps service program has defined three areas of focus when it comes to serving community. We recognize that if we are going to "move the conservation needle" we need to focus on serving human communities, wildlife communities and ecological communities in order to allow all three communities can thrive together. The Zoo Unto Others service program increases our capacity to serve these three communities simultaneously, while developing the next generation of zoo conservation professionals. The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden (CZBG) and AmeriCorps have partnered together with these three goals in mind: 1) To serve Cincinnati region students in need through providing quality STEM education. Inquiry-based, science programming is delivered in a fun and engaging setting (the Zoo) where learners develop an understanding the process of science. AmeriCorps Service Members work directly with teachers and students to improve science literacy and academic engagement in the science process. 2) We serve human, wildlife, and ecological communities by challenging our Cincinnati community to step up and do more to conserve resources and wildlife! AmeriCorps Service Members engage community members by sharing sustainable habits, encourage sustainable behavior change, and provide hands-on learning opportunities to our visiting public. Our goal is to lead by example and spark conservation practices in visitors at the zoo. 3) To develop the next generation of Zoo conservation professionals. For many, this program is a fast track into the conservation profession! Position Summary: This position promotes the mission of the CZBG and AmeriCorps through the coordination of the Zoo's AmeriCorps Service Program- "Cincinnati Zoo Unto Others." Reporting to the Director of Education, this position is responsible for member recruitment, placement, training and development, in addition to working directly with Zoo staff supervising AmeriCorps Members serving throughout the Zoo and the Cincinnati community. This position is funded through a state grant and is renewable every 3 years. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Recruit, train, inspire, and develop AmeriCorps service members at the Zoo. Ensure all members (and staff supervising members) adhere to the measures, outputs and outcomes as outlined in the Zoo's AmeriCorps Program design. Follow-up and coach members regarding performance-related issues. Create and generate regular service and budget reports required by the AmeriCorps grantor - ServeOhio. Effectively communicate the ServeOhio/Zoo partnership with stakeholders and community at large Design and implement accurate data collection methods and report on findings regularly. Manage the annual process of re-competing for program funding. Lead by example and enabling every member of the team to act. Effectively manage the program budget Strategically align the team with program initiatives Other duties as assigned Qualifications / Desired Skills & Abilities: An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job successfully will be considered. Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in related field Experience leading a team/program required Experience managing budgets / administering grant funds highly desirable Experience which demonstrates a passion for community service, a strong conservation ethic and enthusiasm for wildlife Command of Windows-based software and applications is required Comfort with in-person and video-conferencing communications/program delivery in both the management of service
