Starbucks senior manager, strategic technical planning - 6 month FTC in Chiswick, United Kingdom

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Manager, Strategic Tech Planning to join us on a 6 month FTC. You'll join the EMEA Technology function and will lead a team of 3 within the Chiswick Support Centre. Your predominant focus is around the management and delivery of project office responsibilities with the main focus being; Planning, Governance, Communication and Vendor Management.

Key Responsibilities:

Planning:

  • Responsible for EMEA technology portfolio planning including, financial management and resource allocation working closely with senior leadership to drive forward projects that are aligned to business goals

  • Responsible for the budgeting and forecasting processes for EMEA technology projects & product stack. As well as capturing the total cost of ownership

  • Manage the annual technology operating plan process, working closely with EMEA & Technology leadership on the development of 1- and 3-year plans

  • Develop the annual financial plan taking into consideration any financial targets and constraints

  • Work with International US Consultancy Team, to align to the US annual planning process to secure resource and financial support, where required

  • Oversee the technology project support processes to manage the demand for technology support / resources and priority of workload within EMEA Technology

  • Govern, manage and track technology business request process

  • Oversee the monthly management of technology accounts preparation and the monthly accounts review for the technology departmentInterpret and report both regularly and ad hoc financial and project information to VP of technology and technology Leadership Team (ITLT) accurately and to specific deadlines

  • Develop financial management processes that minimize and highlight potential financial and supplier risk

  • Liaise where necessary with internal auditors to ensure compliance with regulations

  • Support the allocation of resources and skills within the programmes & individual projects including providing resource planning tools

  • Provide for consideration, any implications of decisions before proceeding, ensuring, with the support of Finance, that financial practices are in line with all statutory legislation and regulations

Governance

  • Responsible for overseeing governance, finance and reporting for the EMEA technology portfolio

  • Work with the business to develop and implement a project governance structure that aligns with technology and business requirements

  • Develop relationships with key stakeholders across the business to prioritise projects throughout the year, cascading information to relevant teams, licensees and vendors

  • Manage the tracking and reporting of technology projects to Leadership Team, ensuring information is reported to a high standard

  • Establish frequency of status and budget reports and communication to stakeholders

  • Provide business analysis for enhancements and new developments where necessary

  • Provide standards and direction to Portfolio Managers on effective communication plans and stakeholder management

  • Ensure quality, risk and issues logs are maintained and reviewed on a periodic basis

  • Implement tollgate process and checkpoints to ensure that all projects are following correct methodology and are progressing as per plan

  • Govern and assist in the development and improvement of training, skills and communication of the technology Project Methodology

Communications

  • Oversee reporting & communication of technology operating plan progress

  • Oversee the communication of EMEA wide project roadmaps to the business, licensees and vendors to support co-ordination of project & product deliverables

  • Promote the recommended technology stack and manage messaging and quality of technology communications to external teams or customers

  • Ensure high quality of communications and review technology communications, wherever possible, before they are distributed to Customers thus ensuring high standards are maintained

  • Develop ‘gate keeper’ approach for ensuring communication of any technology projects or costs outside of the department to ensure alignment

Vendor Management

  • Act as a key contact for vendors to understand EMEA technology operating plan and licensee roadmaps

  • Manage the tracking of vendor performance against plan by overseeing financial investment by vendor, data collection of KPIs and technology product performance

  • Drive better data quality and leverage data to better assist decision making, business reviews or vendor management

Knowledge and Experience

  • Leadership experience and strong coaching and mentoring skillset

  • Good commercial awareness

  • Self-motivated and comfortable to work to tight timescales

  • Solid experience within a Project Office/IT function

  • PRINCE 2 training

  • Impeccable communication and facilitation skills

  • Solid experience and knowledge of techniques for planning, monitoring and controlling projects/programmes/portfolios

  • A good level of computer literacy with Microsoft Office Professional

  • The ability to work in a busy environment and remain calm under pressure

  • The ability to work well within a team and develop good relationships with customers
