Requisition Summary

Kenworth is seeking a Sr Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Air Systems Group. In the Air Systems Group you will be working on designing, updating, and improving the air systems on commercial vehicles. This will include working on current product offerings as well as future vehicle platforms. We are looking to add an engineer to the team that is knowledgeable in vehicle air systems integration and has experience with air system design. Our ideal candidates will be motivated to contribute to a new generation of vehicles at Kenworth and PACCAR globally.

This position is within the Chassis Engineering department at Kenworth. Responsibilities will include requirements definition, investigative, development, coordination, and implementation activities. The team will interface with other teams at PACCAR developing other related systems and representing North American vehicle requirements in our global organization.

Here's what you will do in this role:

  • Participate in the design and development of heavy-duty trucks within the Air Systems Engineering group, focusing on improving the design and quality of the air-actuated components.

  • Manage implementation of product changes by tracking project schedule, budget, and functional requirements throughout the entire life of the project.

  • Manage vehicle-related issue resolution projects “cradle-to-grave” in all areas of the truck.

  • Complete work related to engineering and corporate goals.

  • Work with internal and external organizations on issue identification, root cause analysis, design, validation, product release, and field support.

  • Utilize Creo to create optimized parts and assembly of complex designs.

  • Work through the Product Creation Process utilizing Tollgate to manage projects, report updates, and utilize Six Sigma skills regularly.

  • Employ Design for Six Sigma and engineering tools to validate designs: QFD, FMEA, DVP&R, GD&T, etc.

  • Work closely with multiple PACCAR divisions.

  • Travel up to 10%.

    Qualifications & Skills

  • BSME or equivalent engineering degree required; EIT certification is a plus.

  • 3-5 years industry-related background in the design and specification of heavy-duty trucks is a plus.

  • 3D modeling software experience required (Creo Parametric specific knowledge is a plus), with familiarity of large assembly management, sheet metal experience, and cabling design.

  • Experience in product development and new product implementation required.

  • Working knowledge of commercial vehicle air systems required.

  • Competency in the use of personal computer software including project management tools.

  • Understanding in the use of Design for Six Sigma and Six Sigma techniques.

  • Ability to perform in a lean, fast-paced, results-oriented environment, while managing multiple priorities is a must.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to present monthly status updates in front of engineering management teams.

The salary range for Sr Mechanical Design Engineer – Air Systems is $84,000-$131,700 annually. This position is also eligible for a holiday gift. Additionally, this role is eligible for the full range of benefit options listed above.
