About the Department

Clinical Medical Ethics examines ethical issues that arise in encounters between patients, families, and physicians, and aims to improve the process and outcome of patient care. The MacLean Center is the leading program in the country devoted to the study and teaching of clinical ethics. The program has gained national and international prominence for its groundbreaking research and training in medical ethics. The MacLean Center also runs the Ethics Consultation Service at University of Chicago and directs the Pritzker School of Medicine first-year course on the Doctor-Patient Relationship.

Job Summary

The Research Assistant position sits within The MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and plans for Ethics Fellowship Program, weekly Interdisciplinary Faculty Lecture Series, annual Conference, and coursework at the Pritzker School of Medicine.
  • Edits ongoing research projects, especially relating to transplant ethics, the Doctor-Patient Relationship, surgical ethics, and philosophical bioethics.
  • Reviews literature, and performs searches and reviews pertaining to projects.
  • Participates in weekly ethics case conference.
  • Organizes, helps to design, and participates in the Doctor-Patient Relationship course for Pritzker MS1 students.
  • Organizes and updates the MacLean Center website, fellowship database, and outreach to speakers and hospital ethics consultation service.
  • Collects and enters data. Assists in analysis of data and with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
  • Complies with institution, state and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).
