The Department of Cinema and Media Studies and Program in Media Arts and Design invites applications for a part-time Lecturer with an expected start date of September 1 or as soon as possible thereafter. The initial appointment is for 1 year renewable contingent upon continued curricular need and following successful review.

We seek candidates who are highly effective teachers across the media arts. The selected candidate will have teaching opportunities in areas of media theory, history, and/or practice, as well as the Media Arts and Design Practice Core course. Responsibilities include teaching 4 or 5 courses a year.

The terms and conditions of employment for this position are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the University and Service Employees International Union. This position is contingent upon budgetary approval.

Qualifications

A BFA/BA, MFA/MA, or PhD in media arts or adjacent fields is required. Applicants must have prior experience teaching media arts at the university or post-secondary level. They should have a digital or networked media art practice or experience in relevant design fields. For teaching the Media Arts and Design Practice Core course, applicants will benefit from familiarity with various software and platforms: open-source tools like GIMP, Blender, or Audacity; free tools like Figma, Unity, DaVinci Resolve; and proprietary software like the Adobe Suite. Beyond any particular tool, ideal candidates will be able to work with students making media works across a variety of media forms.
