Job Overview – Director, Digital Platform Engineering and Operations

HUB International is rapidly expanding our digital product offerings and technology solutions and is seeking a motivated leader to head our Digital Platform Engineering and Operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the teams focused on Cloud Engineering and Operations, DevOps, ITSM, Tooling, and Release Management for HUB’s expanding portfolio of Digital products, ensuring the availability and performance of mission-critical applications hosted within a cloud environment.

Our ideal candidate can demonstrate a track record of partnering with business and technology leaders to design, develop, and manage digital platforms and tools supporting digital products and solutions. You will collaborate closely with Product Owners and Designers, Solutions Architects, Application Development Managers, Agile Scrum and Program Management Teams, Internal Business Partners, Security and Compliance Teams, and the broader IT organization to deliver and maintain digital insurance products that our customers love.

This leader will drive the definition, refinement, alignment, and adoption of technical, procedural, and support tool standards, and the requirements, design, deployment, integration, and operations of HUB’s digital platform(s) and support tools, across HUB’s suite of digital properties, leveraging each product's capabilities and best practices in support of HUB’s long-term digital strategy. You will develop and promote the team’s capabilities and practices across HUB’s IT and Business teams, expanding their reach, impact, and capacity as needed to consistently execute their responsibilities and achieve their goals in a timely and quality manner.

The successful candidate has a strong talent for designing, developing, integrating, and supporting cloud infrastructures and CI/CD pipelines for digital products, along with supporting automation, orchestration, monitoring, and administrative toolsets. This leader will oversee all Cloud Engineering, Operations, DevOps, and ITSM aspects, including application and database administration, monitoring and alerting, production scheduling, release management, incident management, change management, and communications for HUB’s digital properties.

The Director, Digital Platform Engineering and Operations will be a natural leader with a strong talent for developing high-performing teams and a proven ability to plan, design, deploy, and maintain strategic digital platforms, pipelines, and toolsets, ensuring consistent performance and timely support. This leader consistently builds strong working relationships with business and technology partners, communicates effectively across all levels of the organization, welcomes challenges, and always drives for the best business outcome.

This leader thrives in a matrixed and virtual environment and excels at leading and supporting teammates, internal stakeholders, contractors, and managed service partners.

Note: this position is remote and can be anywhere in the US or Canada.

In This Role, You’ll Get To:

  • Lead and manage teams focused on Digital Platform Engineering and Operations, ITSM/Tooling, DevOps, and Release Management,

  • Provide strategic direction and oversee the design, development, integration, availability, and performance of the company's digital infrastructure frameworks and tooling that are scalable, consistent, repeatable, and supportable.

  • Understand the needs and challenges of the Business, Marketing, and Technical teams and devise solutions that advance their business and technical goals. Collaborate with product owners, design teams, technical leads, and other stakeholders to identify business, technical, and operational requirements,

  • Partner with development teams to ensure that solutions are designed with customer user experience, scale/performance, and operability in mind,

  • Work closely with security and compliance teams to ensure that digital platforms and tooling adhere to corporate policies and align with industry standards,

  • Ensure that the digital platform(s), toolset(s), pipelines, and ITSM processes align with the company's strategic goals and customer needs. Practice continuous improvement in standards, processes, designs, and tooling,

  • Ensure the tooling supports the automation, orchestration, and monitoring of the products, applications, integrations, platforms, and CI/CD pipelines throughout their lifecycle,

  • Ensure the digital platform provides the integration capabilities required by the primary products, systems, applications, and services. Identify potential technical issues and assist in engineering solutions,

  • Ensure performance benchmarks and key performance indicators (KPIs) are developed and managed for environmental and application performance, in partnership with the Business and broader IT teams,

  • Monitor the availability, performance, and reliability of mission-critical applications and platforms, ensuring the appropriate actions are taken in response to detected issues and outages. Be available 24/7 for any critical system issue or outage that may arise that requires immediate resolution, leading service-restoration efforts for critical outages across a multi-disciplinary IT team,

  • Promote root-cause analysis for service interruptions to establish preventive measures. Identify potential technical issues and assist in engineering possible solutions,

  • Evaluate cloud applications, infrastructure, and associated costs at regular intervals. Recommend changes, upgrades, or improvements to support the scaling of HUB’s digital platform and continued realization of HUB’s product goals,

  • Direct and mentor a team of professionals, fostering an environment of growth and development,

  • Lead, manage, and motivate multiple internal and third-party resources, creating a collaborative environment across the business teams, IT, and vendors,

  • Hold internal and third-party resources accountable for their commitments and deliverables,

  • Promote a culture of customer obsession, inclusion, agility, and learning within the team.

We Want Someone Who Has:

  • A strong understanding of business and technology with an established track record for successfully planning, leading, delivering, and managing complex digital platforms and solutions of varied scope, size, and end-user impacts. Ability to identify and resolve unforeseen problems that could impact strategic programs and product offerings,

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate proficiently (both verbally and in writing) with internal and external teams across all layers of the organization, including virtual team members across multiple time zones,

  • Passion for delivering value to business partners and end-users, with a customer-centric mindset that anticipates business needs and responds positively to feedback. Consultative skills with the ability to interpret and define technical requirements and solutions.

  • Extensive experience with programming languages, cloud platforms, systems design and integration, infrastructure orchestration, automation tooling, and ITSM.

  • Ability to lead and motivate others, demonstrating empathy and knowledge of personality types, with a desire to help teammates succeed. Proficiency and propensity for servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, problem-solving, conflict resolution, team empowerment, and transparency,

  • Experience managing executive and business stakeholders, with strong presentation skills, ability to adjust the message to the audience, and explain complex concepts in easily understood ways,

  • Highly organized, with considerable experience in agile, hybrid-agile, and plan-driven software delivery methodologies,

  • Successfully held vendors accountable for delivery,

  • Familiarity with Bitbucket, Azure DevOps, Jira, Confluence, Miro, SharePoint, and Microsoft Office tools,

  • Insurance background is a plus,

  • Desire to learn.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Required Experience: 7-10 years of relevant experience

  • Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree (4-year degree) in technology or equivalent work experience

  • Required Travel: Up to 10%

  • Full-Time
