Who You'll Work With You will be based in one of McKinsey's offices in the United States as part of McKinsey's Risk and Compliance function, whose mission is to enable McKinsey's client impact and innovation while managing risks to the firm, our clients and our people. The function is an integrated global team and backgrounds including communications, consulting, diplomacy, government, government affairs and law. You will report to the conflicts manager. Your impact within our firm You will undertake conflict of interest checks on new engagements submitted across the global firm. You will carry out conflict of interest checks in the firm's conflicts database on clients and any involved parties identified on each new engagement. You will perform research on entities in external sources. You will have responsibilities that include identifying, clearing and where appropriate, elevating conflicts issues which will include recommendations on how to address. You will have the autonomy to run robust conflicts of interest checks and analyze data independently, making determinations without oversight, though with the judgement to know when to seek advice and counsel from colleagues. You will conduct conflict of interest search strategy and discount false positives from conflicts reports as well as undertake focused research in internal and external sources. You will collaborate with client service risk colleagues on any engagements requiring higher level risk reviews, and brief findings and convey judgements to partners and other senior colleagues. You will play an important role in evolving and ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the firm's conflict of interest processes in a globally consistent way, while also supporting efforts to ensure compliance with relevant firm policies, systems and processes. You will also train and develop more junior colleagues as well as support or lead conflicts or compliance initiatives including policy and procedural refinements and workstreams to continually improve the firm's capabilities. Your qualifications and skills Undergraduate degree 3+ years of professional experience on complex problems related to business risk Demonstrate intellectual curiosity through professional training, advanced degree or professional impact Experience or strong interest in due diligence, risk management and compliance Prior experience of conflicts of interest analysis and systems within accounting, financial services or legal sectors highly advantageous Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills; demonstrable ability to operate with little oversight Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment; ability to prioritize and balance competing, time-urgent demands Proven track record of developing and mentoring more junior colleagues Ability to work across all levels of seniority, cultivating trust-based, peer-counselor relationships in a highly matrixed environment Strong personal resilience, including comfort and credibility in challenging discussions with senior colleagues, balancing robustness, persistence, flexibility, humility and tact Comfort with, and preferably advanced knowledge of, Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word); aptitude for involvement in database design, including web-enabled, a plus Outstanding English written and oral communication skills, including clear and concise writing and editorial skills and excellent listening skills Willingness to travel on occasion; ability to work across several time zones, as needed Please review the additional requirements regarding essential job functions of McKinsey colleagues.
