Job Summary

The Clinical Research Nurse will work within the Department of Medicine, Section of Cardiology under the supervision of the Clinical Research Manager, and the Principal Investigator(s) of assigned studies. Participate in the conduct of a variety of clinical research projects/studies involving various modalities of treatment for patients in the section. These research trials will include multi-centered cooperative group and intergroup trials at a national level, multi-institutional pharmaceutical trials and single and multi-centered trials, designed, implemented, and coordinated in the Section. Participate in established and future research programs in the Section. Serve as liaison between P.I., sponsoring agent, regulatory groups, patient, family members, referring MD\'s/community MD\'s, pharmacist, statistician, and other members of the research team.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with each study\'s protocol by providing thorough review and documentation at each subject study visit.
  • Participates in recruitment and selection of study participants by interviewing and documenting medical history to determine compliance with eligibility requirements.
  • Performs medical tests, including, but not limited to, vital signs, imaging studies, and electrocardiograms.
  • Administers investigational medications and performs patient assessments during clinic visits to determine presence of side effects; notifies Principle Investigator of findings/issues.
  • Provides patient education and medical information to study patients to ensure understanding of proper medication dosage, administration, and disease treatment.
  • Documents medical data in patient chart to capture protocol requirements.
  • Provides accurate and timely data collection, documentation, entry, and appropriate reporting to sponsors and institution.
  • Applies logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Interprets information from caregivers, nurses, or physicians about patient condition, treatment plans, or appropriate activities.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:

  • Nursing experience.
  • Fundamental working knowledge of clinical research.

Preferred Competencies

  • Knowledge of patient care fundamentals, including aseptic principles and techniques.
  • Ability to provide direct patient care in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to read documents or instruments.
  • Ability to perform multiple concurrent tasks with occasional interruptions.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality while handling sensitive situations.
  • Ability to solve problems by applying math or reasoning principles.
  • Ability to adapt to changing working situations and work assignments.
