CLERK III

DEPARTMENT OF STREETS & SANITATION

Bureau of Sanitation

Number of Positions: 3

Starting Salary: $40,680; Grade B-08

This position is open to the public and all current city employees covered under the City’s Collective Bargaining Agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) – BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

Under supervision, performs a variety of complex clerical duties for various City departments and offices; and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

· Researches and resolves billing issues, including evaluating responsibility for charges and eligibility of garbage services

· Processes various forms and documents including work orders, applications

· Gathers, tabulates, and maintains statistical data and prepares related reports

· Engages in written or oral correspondence with residents

· Maintains accuracy accounts, reconciles accounts, and maintains files

· Enters documents, records and information into computer systems

· Responds to public inquiries about departmental or City programs and services

· Oversees the filing, storage and maintenance of departmental files

· Coordinates workflow

· ​Reviews requests for information from departmental records and processes requests in accordance with departmental

regulations

Additional duties may be required for this position.

Location: 2 North LaSalle

Days/Hours: Monday – Friday; 7:00 am – 3:00 pm

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

One year of clerical experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to successfully pass skills assessment tests and complete an interview. Test results will be sent out by the Department of Human Resources after the test results have been analyzed and compiled. The candidates that receive a passing score on the skills assessment test will be invited to interview for the position. Candidate(s) receiving a passing score on the test and possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral interview, will be selected according to the cba.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

· Previous Customer Request Management System experience

· Previous clerical work experience

· Previous customer service work experience handling account discrepancies/inquiries

· Previous work experience in account reconciliation or accounts receivable

· Previous work experience in recordkeeping

· Proficiency using Microsoft Office Software
