U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command Administrative Support Technician (Office Automation) in Chicago, Illinois

Summary About the Position: The Military Entrance Processing Station plays a vital role in maintaining the nation's military might by ensuring that each new member of the Armed Forces: Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, and Coast Guard; meets the high mental, moral & medical standards required by the DoD and the military services. Every MEPS represents state of the art in testing, examining, and processing applicants for enlistment into the Armed Forces. This is a permanent position. Responsibilities As an Administrative Support Technician (Office Automation), you will: Maintain calendars for staff. Maintain a suspense log for all actions in accordance to office procedures. Prepare Request for Personnel Action for submission using automated systems. Maintain office files, including personnel files on military and civilian employees in accordance with regulatory guidance. Serve as timekeeper providing advice to supervisors on time and leave procedures. Review documents prepared for Commander's signature ensuring compliance with regulations. Screen telephone calls and visitors to refer/direct customers to appropriate staff/office. Process mail to include distribution to appropriate staff members and post office. Create a variety of reports for submission to higher headquarters using a variety of office software packages. Assist newly assigned personnel in in-processing and completing required forms. Experience Required GS-06: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Providing clerical support (i.e., screening telephone calls/visitors, maintaining office calendars, maintaining records or files, etc.) for the organization; Preparing office correspondence for organization ensuring grammatical/spelling/punctuational correctness; Assisting in creating personnel actions for organization employees; Utilizing office automation software to prepare various types of documents (i.e., spreadsheets, reports, graphs, charts, statistical data, etc.); Assisting with the onboarding of Military and/or Civilian personnel by gathering and/or reviewing required documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration/Mangement; Human Resources Management, or a field related to the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Clerical Customer Service (Clerical/Technical) Decision Making Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
