JOB TITLE: Planner l CLASSIFICATION: Exempt DEPARTMENT: Planning and Development SUPERVISOR: Planner ll SALARY: $46,695 to $56,034 Annually

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Perform associate/entry level professional level work in the field of current planning; and provide information and assistance to developers, the business community and the public on planning, zoning, subdivisions, annexations, and development-related matters.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accept responsibility and take initiative to ensure that assignments are carried out with accuracy and on time. Meet quick-turnaround deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Confer with and advise architects, builders, attorneys, contractors, engineers and the public regarding City development regulations and standards for zoning applications, subdivision regulations, site development and other planning issues. Confer with and advise consultants, community member stakeholders, City staff, and other relevant stakeholders on neighborhood plans, comprehensive plans, historic preservation, transportation plans and other planning issues.
  • Inspect properties and structures for compliance with current City zoning codes and regulations; identify corrective actions to be taken by owner.
  • Review development proposals and applications for compliance with adopted plans, proposed plans, appropriate land use policies and regulations in collaboration with other City and State review agencies; prepare reports on recommendations.
  • Prepare and present staff reports for the Planning Commission, Board of Adjustment, City Council, and County Commissioners; communicate at public hearings and write in a clear, concise, and accurate manner. Attend evening and weekend meetings as assigned.
  • Prepare and manage grants for planning projects, plan implementation projects, historic preservation projects and similar special projects.
  • Provide information to staff pertinent to the development of the comprehensive plan (PlanCheyenne); recommend and develop policies and procedures for future zoning, environmental and other issues that impact City growth and expansion.

``` - Participate on various committees, interdepartmental coordination teams, and advisory boards as directed; undertake research; prepare reports and maps.

SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Respond to public inquires in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Answer questions and provide information to the public; investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.
  • Utilizes the departments permit software for development applications and approvals and keeps property files updated with pertinent development review paperwork.
