Bowman GIS Analyst I - Remote, MO in Chesterfield, Missouri

Bowman has an opportunity for a GIS Analyst I to join our team remote or in person in Chestefield, MO. If fully remote employee will be required to travel to the office one (1) week each quarter.

Purpose

The GIS Analyst works within the GIS Finishing department, creating, analyzing, and providing quality assurance on a wide range of geospatial products to ensure products meet or exceed customer expectations. Analysts are also responsible for reporting and Project Management support.

Responsibilities

1. Geospatial Analysis and Production:

  • Conduct advanced geospatial analysis using ESRI software suite, ensuring accurate transformations and geoprocessing to create high-quality final products.

  • Generate and validate topology for ESRI-based vector and raster datasets, crafting detailed LIDAR surface models, las pointclouds, and intensity images aligned with client specifications.

2. Workflow and Quality Management:

  • Develop and optimize workflows to enhance team efficiency and product quality.

  • Create and implement checklists to systematically guide project progression and assure dataset integrity at each stage.

  • Validate datasets and provide peer review to maintain consistent quality control throughout the department's deliverables.

3. Training and Mentorship:

  • Offer targeted training sessions and constructive feedback to junior team members to foster professional growth and enhance product knowledge.

  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement, acting as a mentor to less experienced analysts.

4. Client and Project Support:

  • Provide expert technical advice to Project Management upon project awarding, including guidance on data schemas, data dictionaries, and geodatabase creation.

  • Engage in proactive client support to address inquiries and articulate complex geospatial concepts and methodologies.

5. Quality Assurance and Standards Compliance:

  • Uphold stringent quality standards to achieve first-time client acceptance and punctual final delivery of all projects.

  • Review and recommend updates to ISO Work Instructions to reflect current best practices and ensure full compliance.

6. Innovative Problem-Solving:

  • Identify and propose creative solutions to complex issues, ensuring that alternative approaches are evaluated and the most effective methods are adopted.

7. Reporting and Communication:

  • Diligently maintain and update status reports and tracking mechanisms for all projects, ensuring transparency and up-to-date communication across teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography or related GIS field (will accept 5+ years of experience in stereo compilation in lieu of a degree).

  • Three or more (3+) years of GIS experience with increasing responsibilities.

  • Five or more (5+) years of relevant experience preferred.

  • Proficiency in ESRI suite including ArcPRO.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)

  • Advanced understanding of geodatabase creation and manipulation

  • Experience creating LIDAR derivative products

  • Experience with CAD software such MicroStation CONNECT and AutoCAD preferred

  • Experience training technical staff on products and services

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Adaptability to changing schedules and priorities based on client needs.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic

  • Mobility around an office environment

  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines

  • Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business

  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds

  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds

  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder

  • Visual acuity - normal color vision.

  • Able to sit and focus on imagery on a computer monitor for long periods of time.

  • Manual dexterity as needed to use accepted tools of management, i.e., computers, computer monitors, mouse, keyboard.
