This role is designed to increase efficiency within the Analytical Services group and will be accountable for feed analysis, enzyme recovery, and ICP-OES and ICP-MS sample analysis to support customers and nutrition research. The position entails performing sample preparation for a variety of assays and routine analysis of samples (70%) as well as data analysis and documentation (30%). The technician will also be responsible for lab clean-up and organization. Sample preparation includes drying in the oven, ashing, digestion, dilution, weighing, homogenization, instrumentation run, equipment maintenance, and final analysis/interpretation of results. Data will be entered into Excel and LIMS.
Responsibilities
Perform sample preparation for a variety of assays and routine analysis of samples
Conduct data analysis and documentation
Responsible for lab clean-up and organization
Prepare biological samples (drying, ashing, digestion, dilution, weighing, homogenization)
Conduct instrumental analysis by HPLC, UV-Vis, and other wet chemistry tests
Analyze calorimetry by a calorimeter (calorie count)
Analyze supplemental amino acids by HPLC
Conduct chloride titration
Analyze fat/stability by AOM
Analyze OSI - Oil Stability Index
Enter data into Excel and LIMS
Essential Skills
BS Degree in a Science related discipline (Chemistry preferred, then Biochemistry, then Biology with Chemistry Minor)
1-2 years of industry experience with practical analytical laboratory training (HPLC, ICP, titration, pipetting skills)
Proficient with Microsoft Excel and LIMS
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Hands-on HPLC or ICP experience within an industrial lab
Experience from research in school, internship, or similar practical settings
MS Degree in a related field may be considered if accompanied by actual years of experience
Work Environment
The work environment is primarily in a laboratory setting with cubicles in the office area outside of the labs. The brand-new lab space opened in January 2024. The company overall is very dynamic and forward-thinking, with an excellent company culture that is very team-oriented. The shift can be 8-5 or 7-4, with flexibility. Work is Monday - Friday, with minimal overtime expected. There is flexibility to work four ten-hour shifts if needed to account for a day of PTO, subject to prior approval.
