Confidential Employer Junior Accountant in Chester, Pennsylvania

The Junior Accountant will assist the CFO and Sr. Accountants in preparing financial statements and reports, perform financial analysis, assist in the administration of pension meetings and preparation of basic pension documents, and have primary responsibility for bank reconciliations.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Performs general accounting and other related duties.
  • Support department employees in their roles supporting citywide departments.  
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closes; including performing analysis, recommending adjustments, and posting approved journal entries.
  • Primary department responsibility for all aspects of monthly bank account reconciliations, including extracting statements from banks through account reconciliations and posting adjustments.  
  • Work closely with the payroll coordinator and the City Controller on all pension changes, buybacks, annual payroll history, and any pensions-related changes.
  • Support administrative tasks for pension activities such as agendas, individual documents for consideration, and minutes. Role will include substantial tasks related to preparing retiree documentation for submission to actuaries and other professionals.
  • Perform occasional purchasing tasks for the department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Licenses, Certifications, Education Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required, or substantial equivalent work experience.
  2. Will consider recent college Accounting graduates with quality internship experience.
  3. Must be able to pass all pre-employment testing requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

 

 

  • Impeccable ethical standards and understanding of fiduciary standards.
  • Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
  • Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Proficient with accounting software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Physical Demands

  • Limited physical exertion. Involves mental concentration on detail-oriented work, including analyzing, interpreting, and reporting complex information over long periods
  • Must be able to lift to 25 pounds
