Tax Technology Manager

Summary of Position

The Tax Technology Manager is responsible for executing the enhancement and maintenance of systems used within the Tax Department. This individual will be responsible for leveraging technology tools to solve business problems, query and analyze data sets, and evaluate and implement efficiencies and processes as they relate to indirect tax and unclaimed property. The Tax Technology Manager will provide direction, guidance, and support to a team of tax technology specialists.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Execute maintenance of the tax systems necessary to ensure proper tax reporting for strategic initiatives (process design, implementation, user acceptance testing, and training)

• Effectively apply sales tax knowledge to develop and maintain tax systems such as Vertex and OneSource Indirect Tax Determinations and their respective data flows

• Collaborate with tax management to ensure tax and point of sale systems reflect current regulatory requirements and audit results

• Manage and maintain relationships with IT

• Develop and deliver end user training and maintain documentation of all indirect tax technology

• Lead in identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, efficiency gains and technology best practices by using new and existing technologies

• Participate in cross-functional teams with internal partners for strategic initiatives

• Partner with internal teams and develop in-depth knowledge of tools, systems, and processes

• Maintain Indirect Tax reporting dashboards and data flows

• Serve as the technology lead to colleagues in the Tax Department

• Manage a team of tax system specialists, providing direction, guidance, and support

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems or related field

• 5-7 years’ experience with a combination of indirect tax, corporate or equivalent public accounting experience, and accounting systems roles

• Broad-based understanding of tax and accounting fundamentals and related processes

• Deep analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong interest in technology and its use in business processes

• Good interpersonal and communication skills

• Self-motivated, engaged by a fast-paced environment and handling challenges and tight deadlines with ease

• Power BI, Alteryx or other automation tools

• Experience with large business data sets

Desired qualifications

• CPA, CMA or CMI candidate desired

• Experience with tax engines and compliance software desired

• SQL and RPA experience preferred
