Unit Coordinator & Patient Care Assistant

Department: Courtyard East – this unit at our Chelsea hospital cares for Medical-Surgical patients as well as Chronic Head Pain patients. This unit has 42 beds and specializes in surgical post-operative care, telemetry, stroke, chronic pain management and patient education.

Location: Chelsea, MI hospital

Minimum pay rate: $15.46/hr + based upon applicable on the job experience

Position Purpose:

This position will work as Unit Coordinator for 24 hours per pay period (every two weeks) and as a Patient Care Assistant for 24 hours per pay period (every two weeks) for a total of 48 hours per pay period, part time, benefit eligible.

The Unit Coordinator/Secretary is responsible for a variety of activities involving clerical support, obtaining requested medical records by the medical team, and providing support to patients and staff in the unit

The Patient Care Assistant, under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe and conducive to patient/family wellbeing including concepts of relationship-based care.

Training is provided to prepare our colleagues for success. The PCA assists patient in completing ADLs including: Bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices and with feeding and menu selection. They are responsible to record patient information and required data in appropriate areas in order to meet documentation requirements.

Shifts Available: 7am-7:30pm

Status Available: 48 hours per pay period (every two weeks) - part time, benefit eligible

Every other weekend and holiday rotation required

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of high school education

  • Recent unit secretary and/or patient care experience preferred

  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
