General Summary:

This is a hybrid opportunity, defined as a work environment that combines remote work and in-office work. It allows employees to have the flexibility to work from both home and the office, striking a balance that suits individual preferences and job responsibilities. This setup promotes collaboration, work-life balance, and diversity of thought. 2 in-office days per week can be at either our Portland, ME, Chattanooga, TN, Columbia, SC, locations.

As an EDI Technology Consultant, you will play a critical role in managing multiple case-level enrollments and ensuring the smooth implementation and operation of EDI systems for our clients. Your expertise in coding and your meticulous attention to detail will be essential in handling high-volume workloads while maintaining accuracy and efficiency. We specialize in cutting-edge Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) solutions that facilitate seamless data exchange between diverse systems.

This position works in direct partnership with customer technical resources and business partners maintain electronic data interchange (EDI) services between Colonial Life's systems and other vendors (e.g., benefits administration providers, technology partners, employers, and brokers) as well as processing new and ongoing Census Enrollment files.

The EDI Tech Consultant works closely with internal and external business partners and provides expertise on Colonial Life’s data connection capabilities, system functionality and setup procedures. This position requires strong an in-depth knowledge and understanding data connection technology, strategy, reporting, and supporting processes.

EDI Processing Duties and Responsibilities 80%:

  • Serves as an enrollment EDI technology resource and point of contact for internal/external business partners specific to error resolution and consulting for ongoing file maintenance.

  • Manages multiple case level enrollment EDIs that are high profile, high risk and present a high degree of complexity for Colonial Life (which may also include census/auto enrollments).

  • Acts with a sense of urgency in preventing, identifying, and correcting case level third party enrollment EDI escalations in partnership with IT to drive resolution as needed.

  • Responsible for updating departmental tracking/reporting systems.

  • Perform quality validation checks to minimize file processing errors with internal business systems.

  • Meets or exceeds departmental and organizational goals and metrics.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Implementation Engagement Duties and Responsibilities 20%:

  • Creates, interprets, and negotiates system and technical requirements for ongoing operational support with customers and third-party vendors.

  • Work closely with Enrollment Implementation Consultant to address case level issues with ongoing files.

  • Collaborates with business partners to provide EDI subject matter expertise on Colonial Life’s data models, associated systems and technology, in support of Sales, Implementation, Administration, Benefits and other key internal business processes.

  • May represent the team on cross functional team projects/initiatives as subject matter expert for third party enrollment EDI strategies, system enhancements, testing support, and general problem solving to improve the customer experience and team effectiveness across proprietary file processing applications.

Job Specifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or 3-5 years’ experience in, enrollment systems, IT, or other related technical work experience required.

  • EDI/IT experience working directly with customers and/or third party enrollment technology vendors, and developing EDI connections for Ben Admin/HRIS/payroll systems preferred.

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to collaborate with internal/external business partners regarding EDI capabilities.

  • Ability to track and manage large volumes of work and concurrent issues with timely escalation and detailed documentation to support recommended actions.

  • Strong working knowledge of data manipulation and relational databases through use of relevant tools and applications is highly preferred.

  • Strong conceptual understanding of basic design, code and testing following IT standards highly preferred.

  • Strong knowledge and experience with various Microsoft Office tools: Excel and Access highly preferred; Word, PowerPoint, Projects, and Visio a plus.

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively while adding to the dynamics of a team environment.

  • Strong track record of accountability for delivering quality results based on organizational and departmental quality measures.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong customer service and relationship skills.

  • Demonstrate desire to expand technical knowledge and learn new tools.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$53,300.00-$95,900.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
