    Position Summary

    The incumbent of this position serves as a member of the DDDP/Pathways Senior Leadership Management Team. This position requires an understanding of Florida Statutes 393.11, 916, and Florida Administrative Code 65G. This position is responsible for providing leadership and direction for day-to-day operations of all programmatic activities at DDDP. All programs will be evidence-based and designed to bring about a return to court or to prepare residents for transition into a lesser restrictive setting. The scope of work and major duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

    Responsible for planning, directing and facilitating all aspects of programs for residents, including trial competency, rehabilitation therapy and vocational training programs designed to reinforce the competency training curriculum and bring about a return to court, as well as foster and advance skill acquisition to prepare residents to live, learn and work in the community.

    Provides leadership and overall direction to all staff to ensure that leisure programs and activities are planned and deployed on evenings and weekends.

    Provides oversight of the vocational training program, to include coordination of projects, crew performance, quality of work, inventory and supply ordering, ensures completion of federal wage and hour evaluations and all applicable requirements to ensure Agency compliance with the Federal Wage and Hour guidelines.

    Responsible for ensuring adequate course offerings Monday through Friday to provide 5 hours daily of structured classes based on needs assessment, support plan, behavioral plan and preference of each resident. Each class shall have a specific course title, course outline, expectations, goals/objectives, measurable outcomes, time limitations or explanation for on-going.

    Responsible for development, coordination and publishing of monthly activity calendars. Responsible for acquiring equipment and resources required to plan, manage and deploy leisure activities for recreation and to reinforce educational curriculum during the weekday hours of 4:00 to 8:00 pm and weekends and holidays to ensure that residents are engaged in structured and planned activities to minimize behaviors, and increase resident satisfaction. This includes but is not limited to maximizing resources for acquiring equipment, games, educational resources, movies, and incentives. Rehabilitation and Direct Care staff to deploy activities and functions to effectively manage a leisure and recreational services program. Designs and maintains inventory systems to protect, manage and account for leisure and recreational service assets.

    Responsible for developing and maintaining individual class schedules and transcripts for individual residents. Responsible for tracking number of residents served in each class, hours of offered classes and hours attended each day and providing a monthly report to supervisor.

    Responsible for ensuring residents goals/objectives and measurable outcomes are included in the resident’s support plan and updated within the required timeframe. Goals, objectives and measurable outcomes shall be individualized. Maintains and updates documentation requirements as appropriate. This includes but is not limited to assessments, referrals, scheduling and posting, session plans, daily attendance logs, behaviors and/or behavior changes, special incidents, progress reports, special programs and other documentation as required by the Assistant Superintendent.

    Program Overview

    The Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program operates on the campus of Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee and at Sunland in Marianna under the auspices of The State of Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD). The Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program (DDDP) is dedicated to empowering persons with developmental disabilities charged with a felony crime to:

    1. Acquire the skills and supports that will prepare them for success in their future environments.

    2. Acquire the skills needed to become competent to stand trial.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor's or master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in an allied health field; one of the behavioral or rehabilitative sciences, music therapy, music education, or music, physical education with course work in adaptive physical education, vocational education, sociology; trades and arts education, industrial arts education, leisure studies with course work in therapeutic recreation, or horticulture therapy.

  • At least three or more years of supervisory experience. Preference will go to candidates who have experience in supervising rehabilitation staff.

  • Four or more years of experience in developing, implementing, and conducting therapeutic activities.

    Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:

    • Knowledge of the theories and principles of behavior analysis.

    • Knowledge of behavioral functional assessment

    • Knowledge of behavioral interventions and practices.

    • Knowledge of research designs and methodologies.

    • Working Knowledge of MS Excel and MS Word

    • Ability to collect and interpret behavioral data

    • Ability to interview residents and support team members

    • Ability to evaluate, design and implement behaviorally sound interventions

    • Ability to conduct behavioral assessments and interventions

    • Ability to develop experimental designs for behavioral programs

    • Ability to analyze and interpret behavioral data.

    • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.

    • Ability to communicate effectively.

    Other job-related requirements for this position:

    • Certification in the agency approved crisis prevention and intervention program at the Advanced level is required unless the incumbent requests reasonable accommodation supported by an annual medical certification. Incumbent is required to submit to pre-employment TB screening and on an annual on-going basis as prescribed by DDDP.

    • Maintain confidentiality of employee and/or resident information. This specific standard is mission critical as the Agency is entrusted with information about employees and residents which is protected by HIPAA and other federal and state laws. The Agency’s ability to maintain and protect confidential information has a direct relationship to our ability to gain and sustain the public’s trust.

    • Based on the duties and essential functions of this position, incumbents will be required to spend a minimum of 75% of work time performing duties which involves direct contact with residents in a secure forensic facility. This position requires lifting, pulling and squatting.

    This position may be required to perform essential services before, during, and after an emergency per APD OP 2-0035. This position is critical to the safety and supervision of residents and may require the incumbent to work beyond their normal work schedule to maintain minimum coverage levels in the facility.

    WORK SCHEDULE

    This position is located at a 24-hour facility. Staff members must be agreeable to working a shift schedule; regular, evening, or night. Days Off: Varies.

    Employees may be required to work additional days/hours based upon the needs of the facility and center. This includes, but is not limited to ensuring facility coverage, activities, holidays, and emergency situations.
