    Position Summary

    Program Overview

    The Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program operates on the campus of Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee and at Sunland in Marianna under the auspices of The State of Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD). The Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program (DDDP) is dedicated to empowering persons with developmental disabilities charged with a felony crime to:

    1. Acquire the skills and supports that will prepare them for success in their future environments.

    2. Acquire the skills needed to become competent to stand trial.

    The Behavior Analysis Department at DDDP/Pathways is headed by a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA-D), and currently employs two Certified Behavior Analysts and six behavior specialists. We are currently looking for a qualified applicant to fill our recently established position for a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst. The behavior analyst will work closely with the Director of Behavioral Services to provide state-of-the-art consultation, staff training, program development and oversight, and design and implementation of individualized behavior support plans to the DDDP campus at FSH as well as to the Pathways program at Marianna.

    The Behavior Analyst at DDDP/Pathways will:

    • Work directly with the Director of Behavioral Services and the BCBA’s to provide comprehensive behavioral support to the DDDP and Pathways programs.

    • Provide direct consultation to the Pathways administrative team.

    • Act as a liaison between the DDDP Mariana and Chattahoochee campuses.

    • Provide supervision, support, consultation, and guidance to the team of behavior specialists.

    • Help oversee the transition to new data management system.

    • Develop procedures to reduce the use of restraints (by developing Safe Zone, Time-out & seclusion protocols)

    • Guide the behavior specialists in overseeing a token economy and token store.

    • Attend morning meetings on a regular basis.

    • Take the lead in conducting functional assessments and guiding the development and implementation of individualized behavior support plans.

    • Provide staff training on programs and procedures.

    • Plan and help facilitate resident transitions from DDDP to Pathways to eventual non-secure residential placements.

    • Provide supervision for BCaBA/BCBA students when needed.

    • Actively plan for and participate in monthly LRC meetings.

    • Help champion special projects including those designed to enhance staff competencies, ensure program fidelity, and reduce the occurrence of reactive strategies.

    The Work You Will Do

    Provide behavioral support and consultation to the Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program at Chattahoochee, Florida, and the Pathways program on the Sunland campus in Marianna, Florida under the guidance and supervision of the Senior Behavior Analyst.

    Participate with the Senior Behavior Analyst and the Behavior Specialists in planning, designing, training, and implementing facility-wide skills training and behavior management systems and protocols within a secure facility for residents with forensic histories. Provide professional oversight, technical assistance, and guidance to program behavior specialists under the supervision of the Senior Behavior Analyst. Conduct functional assessments and develop individualized behavior reduction strategies, data collection procedures, and create behavior plans for residents who are exhibiting behavior problems. Train program staff on behavior plans, protocols, and procedures and conduct on-site follow-ups to ensure that procedures are implemented with fidelity. Participate in team meetings. Monitor implementation of level system, token economy and token store and develop corrective action plans. Conduct analyses of program data and prepare summaries/graphs for the Local Review Committee (LRC).

    Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

    • Knowledge of the principles of applied behavior analysis

    • Ability to take the lead in special projects designed to improve the overall effectiveness of facility wide and individualized behavioral treatment programs.

    • Ability to conduct functional assessments.

    • Ability to design, implement and refine effective skills training and behavior reduction programs.

    • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with other professionals, direct care staff, and residents.

    • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.

    • Ability to self-motivate, manage time, and maintain high levels of productivity.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s Degree or higher in behavior analysis, psychology, or related discipline preferred.

  • Must maintain BCaBA or BCBA Certification and remain in good standing with the Behavior Analysis Certification Board

  • Ability to communicate with and provide direct assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities who exhibit disruptive and challenging behaviors.

    Background Screening Requirement

    It is the policy of the Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities that applicants for employment undergo Level 2 employment screening in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment or being permitted to serve as a volunteer.
