The overall function of this position is to be responsible for supervising a Districtwide crew in the specialized marking of state highways. This position is located in District 58, Unit 775 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Transportation Operations Manager. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or without minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as needed and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.
A valid Louisiana Class "A" CDL may be required upon appointment.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience in the construction, maintenance or repair of roads, bridges, levees, drainage facilities, wharfs, buildings, or grounds; OR the operation of heavy mobile equipment, industrial machinery, construction or maintenance equipment; OR the maintenance of heavy mobile equipment, industrial machinery, construction or maintenance equipment; OR the operation and/or maintenance of moveable bridges, electronically controlled locks, or power driven drawbridges.
NOTE:
A combination of experience in the various fields will be accepted.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from Highway Foreman 1 by its supervision of a large group of personnel engaged in specialized highway maintenance (e.g., bridge construction, traffic control signals, marking, and signs)or bridge/navigational lock operation in a district or statewide.
Differs from district maintenance superintendents by lack of overall responsibility for management of all maintenance activities for a district.
Examples of Work
60% Supervise the daily work activities of a highway striping crew engaged in applying center line and no passing stripes, raised pavement markers, and heat applied marking tape on state highways. Pavement markers are installed in accordance with the Uniform Traffic Control Devices manual.
15% Supervise the daily work activities of a striping crew while assisting sign crew in sign reflectivity night inspection and replacement of deficient road signs.
5% Prepare daily work reports, recording man hours, equipment and material usage to the appropriate control sections or project numbers for the correct verification of expenses.
5% Reviews daily work schedules to provide adequate materials, equipment and appropriate manpower needed to complete each job.
5% Oversee the repair and modification of striping equipment as needed and train employees in the operation of equipment.
5% Conduct performance evaluations and approves leave for subordinate employees.
5% May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities. May be subpoenaed as requested by DOTD legal Counsel. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.
