University of Virginia Newborn Hearing Screening Technician in Charlottesville, Virginia

This position handles basic newborn hearing screening testing (automated auditory brainstem response and otoacoustic emission testing) conducted on all newborns in the University of Virginia well-baby, transitional, and NICU nurseries prior to their discharge.

  • Provides routine screening testing that is monitored by a clinical audiologist. Both automated auditory brainstem response (AABR) and otoacoustic emission (OAE) testing are conducted with a screening protocol (Pass/Fail).

  • Responsible for reporting screening results to the audiology supervisor, as well as to the attending physicians and pediatricians (via electronic medical record).

  • Responsible for tracking of all infants tested and for maintaining appropriate documentation of all test results so that infants requiring follow-up receive diagnostic testing by a clinical audiologist in a timely manner.

  • Responsible for data input and for maintaining all records for a database.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Degree or equivalent. After hire, completed newborn hearing screening training with a clinical audiologist.

Experience: None. Basic knowledge of and experience utilizing a personal computer. Basic word processing skills required.

Licensure: None.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping/traveling, climbing (ladder, steps) and driving. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull > 100lbs. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, vibrations, humidity, cold, heat, noise, outdoor climate, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
