University of Virginia Assistant/Associate Professor of Family Medicine - Clinical Psychologist, Integrated Behavioral Health in Charlottesville, Virginia

The Department of Family Medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking a full-time faculty clinical psychologist to join its integrated behavioral health program (also known as the Family Stress Clinic (https://med.virginia.edu/family-medicine/clinics/family-stress-clinic/) ), to expand its primary care behavioral health services within the department’s satellite family medicine practices.

The psychologist will work in the department’s family medicine practices located in Albemarle, Nelson, and Louisa counties. The incumbent will be responsible for direct patient care 8 half-day outpatient sessions/week, some of which may be remote. The incumbent may participate in the teaching and supervision of PhD practicum students, residents, and medical students.

Rank, track, and salary will be commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with the Director of Integrated Behavioral Health in Family Medicine to develop a robust Primary Care Behavioral Health model-based program across multiple satellite family medicine practices.

  • Providing access to focused assessment and appropriate collaborative care and treatment in the primary care setting for those experiencing mental health symptoms, behavioral health issues, as well as for the promotion of general health.

  • Practicing collaborative, stepped and measurement-based care, including appropriate follow-up, to address common mental health and complex behavioral health conditions for the primary care population.

  • Enabling optimal functioning of primary care teams through collaborative decision support and interdisciplinary consultation.

  • Performing specialty health psychology assessments (e.g., evaluations for patients seeking medical interventions) to support primary care providers.

  • Providing behavioral health expertise in interdisciplinary quality improvement and research projects.

  • Participating in departmental and health system committees.

The Family Stress Clinic is the integrated behavioral health program located within the Department of Family Medicine. The program currently includes two clinical psychologists and serves as a psychology practicum site, hosting three doctoral students in clinical psychology each year. The psychologists work closely with an interdisciplinary health staff. The Department of Family Medicine is an extremely collaborative department with a long history of integration of behavioral health into both its clinical services and its residency.

Successful candidates must possess a PhD or equivalent in Psychology from an APA-accredited program. Candidates will have completed an APA-accredited internship or equivalent training experience, be licensed or license-eligible in Virginia, and be skilled in interprofessional practice in a complex, academic medical environment.
