Duke Energy is seeking first year Master of Business Administration (MBA) students with a passion for the energy sector!

The Duke Energy MBA Interns will be working on special projects throughout the summer and interfacing with various teams both internal and external to Duke Energy. This role is a temporary internship assignment during the Summer of 2025. The primary job responsibility will be to assist with the projects and teams related to their assigned business unit. Internship opportunities will provide meaningful contributions in support of Duke’s clean energy transition strategy, actual project work leading to decision-oriented results, and broad exposure to groups and initiatives within Duke Energy.

Potential opportunities for Summer 2025 include the following (these may be updated based upon emerging needs in the business):

Regulated Renewables Development: Want to be a renewables developer and work towards bring new utility scale generation projects to the grid? Join the development team responsible for originating, developing, acquiring, and executing utility-scale solar, solar paired with storage and wind projects within Duke Energy’s six regulated service territories. MBA interns will assist in all aspects of project development, including land acquisition, interconnection requests, environmental and technical diligence, permitting, project acquisition due diligence, financial modeling, funding and transaction approvals and project execution.

Energy Storage Development Team: be a part of exciting efforts as the organization plans efforts to develop and sponsor lithium battery energy storage projects.

Project Management and Construction: PMC is responsible for building our new power generation assets and is in early stages of the largest buildout in the history of the company. As part of Duke Energy’s broader strategy to meet rising customer demand and decarbonize the grid, PMC is actively planning and building renewable solar and bulk energy storage, new simple and combined cycle turbines, as well as developing projects for advanced nuclear, pumped storage hydro, and other emerging technologies. MBA interns could include work on large renewable or battery projects in the Carolinas, either transitioning to construction or in construction.

Finance: MBA interns could be placed in various roles within the Finance organization, including financial planning & analysis budgeting/forecasting, and working closely on financial related matters with other teams within Duke Energy.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Enrolled and actively pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree from an accredited college or university with an anticipated graduation of spring/summer 2026

Desired Qualifications

  • Displayed interest in the energy industry

  • Experience directing cross-functional teams

  • Willingness to develop creative solutions for complex strategic issues

  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and teamwork skills

  • Communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

  • Experience in the energy sector

  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills through on-campus or community, extracurricular/volunteer activities, previous work experiences, etc.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office products

  • Extensive scheduling and planning experience

  • Professional work experience related to your areas of interest

  • Project Management Professional certification (for PMC role)

Specific Requirements:

  • Ability to work full-time (Monday-Friday) for 10-13 weeks in the summer of 2025

  • Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to a designated Duke Energy facility
