The Hartford’s Premium Audit Technology team is seeking a results-driven, highly motivated, and experienced IT leader to support premium audit applications. The Software Engineering Manager will have end-to-end accountabilities across the application portfolio Including Production support, Maintenance, Invest funding and Reverse Demand requests.

Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate strong leadership skills, excellent partnership with stakeholders and partner teams, solid technical acumen, experience in delivering quality technical solutions as well as setting and executing on a strategic technical vision to ensure the systems are stable, performant, and secure.

The candidate must have good technical acumen, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced development environment. In addition, they will be also expected to use their strong technical expertise to form and guide and execute on larger strategic initiatives. Candidates must have a willingness to understand existing processes and systems and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills. They should be able to make decisions quickly and be able to build relationships, actively participate in teamwork, and understand the dynamics and critical nature of the business. Prior experience of handling direct reports and vendor resources is a must.

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Understand and implement the overall technical vision for projects, programs, or systems, keeping in mind cross-functional impacts, integration across the organization and architecture rationalization.

  • Understand and lead Production Support processes like

  • Month end/ quarter end / year end BATCH jobs cycle closing activities.

  • SLA driven metrics reporting for incidents.

  • Disaster Recovery/ Cyber runbook updates.

  • Proactively address technical issues and risks that could impact project schedule and/or budget.

  • Work closely with stakeholders to design and document automation solutions that align with the business needs and consistent with the architect vision.

  • Ability to provide concise, transparent communications about potential risks, mitigations, and business impacts in a timely manner.

  • Lead change by influencing and educating Business, IT and Sourcing partners.

  • Takes ownership to drive innovation for effectively leveraging technology to solve the customer problem.

  • Identify opportunities to reduce total cost of ownership in the operational application support areas.

  • Function as the go-to technical leader for the software applications supported, requiring depth and breadth of knowledge in technologies, applications, integration, interfaces, and business domain.

  • Oversee technical deliverables, coaching and mentoring of junior developers and provide technical leadership for same, enforcing development guidelines and best practices. Foster an environment of experimentation and continual improvement through regular Innovation Sprints, technical debt reduction and a forward-thinking architectural runway.

  • Create the progression plan and goal settings for the direct reporting team members. Aspire & direct the skilled resources for the next level readiness with regular 1-1 connects. Provide them timely feedback.

    Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in application software solution development along with managing software engineering teams.

  • Strategic planning, process analysis and execution skills for introducing evolving architecture-based solutions like Cloud, SaaS, and open-source frameworks.

  • Experience building scalable services and application components using Angular, Java, Oracle PL/SQL applications.

  • Experience to build or debug Unix shell scripts and MQ for batch processing.

  • Fusion Middleware Patching/ upgrade experience is plus.

  • Experience with Web Services/ API’s.

  • Strong understanding of Object-Oriented design and methodologies

  • Experience with continuous integration and DevOps methodologies, preferred tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, Rally, SonarQube etc.

  • Experience in Leading large portfolios of technical work.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field

  • Superior organization skills with the ability to simultaneously handle multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to present confidently before a large audience.

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills.

This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday)

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$129,120 - $193,680
