The Opportunity

As a dedicated Ethics Advisor Lead, you will provide leadership on USAA Ethics Programs and help to manage the Ethics Program Office.

An Ethics Advisor Lead plays a vital role in promoting and protecting USAA’s core values and ethical culture. The Ethics Advisor Lead will serve as a resource for employees providing education and guidance on ethical matters, and training employees and leaders on ethical principles and expectations set forth in USAA’s Code of Business Ethics and Conduct. An Ethics Advisor Lead will support a Speak Up culture throughout the organization and contribute to an ethics program that aligns with regulatory expectations and industry best practices.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, or Tampa, FL. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Develops and coordinates the enterprise communications plan and training plan related to business ethics and prepares communications in conjunction with Corporate Communications and Strategic Change Management.

  • Develops and revises ethics policies and guidelines, to include the Business Ethics and Conflict of Interest Policy, the Internet, Intranet, and E mail Policy, and the Code of Business Ethics and Conduct in line with the strategic mission.

  • Develops the Intranet ethics interface with employees in terms of content and access in conjunction with Corporate Communications and other partners.

  • Conducts research on ethics-related topics (internal polling, surveys, focus groups, and external benchmarking) for use in strategic program development.

  • Provides counsel, mentoring, and guidance to ethics staff regarding the handling of ethics allegations and inquiries.

  • Is responsible for preparation of management reports on enterprise ethics activity.

  • Serves as a SME and provides advice to management seeking guidance on ethics issues/dilemmas.

  • Provides information to those inquiring about the Ethics Program.

  • Conducts fact-gathering inquiries into issues reported to the ethics' office.

  • Participates in and/or conducts ethics-related investigations as directed.

  • Engages in building out the Risk Management Framework for Ethics.

  • Develops and leads ethics advisory, allegation case activity.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree: OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required-12 years total) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • 8 years of directly related ethics, compliance and/or business experience providing coaching and guidance to resolve employee issues and conflicts.

  • Subject matter expert familiarity with a wide range of HR and/or ethics-related issues.

  • Strong knowledge of pertinent labor/employment law as well as human resources management principles, practices, and procedures.

  • Strong experience with project/program planning specifically in leading and developing workplace ethics and compliance strategy.

  • Demonstrated high standards of conduct and ethics as well as appropriate judgment, independence, and discretion.

  • General knowledge of significant laws and regulations such as OCC, FRB, DOJ, SEC and CFPB to be able to recognize important issues that could become employee concerns. This includes Gifts and Entertainment guidelines, Conflict of Interest guidelines and general knowledge of the Code of Conduct.

  • Experience building out communications strategies and training modules to address ethics issues.

  • Demonstrated effective investigation skills including planning, interviewing, listening, gathering, and analyzing information, and using discernment and judgment for reaching a conclusion on investigations and communication of results.

  • Knowledge of federal laws, rules, and regulations to include US DOJ Evaluation of Corporate Compliance Programs (June 2020), Federal Sentencing Guidelines (Section 2 Chapter VIII) Sentencing of Organizations, Section 406 of Sarbanes-Oxley, FCPA, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.

What sets you apart:

  • At least one relevant professional certification- Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) certification, Certified Fraud Examiner, Leadership Professional in Ethics and Compliance (LPEC), or other risk and/or compliance certification or designation.

  • Regulatory and financial services experience with a solid understanding of USAA operations.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team, prioritize workflow, and manage multi-faceted projects with demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

  • Extensive experience in continuous monitoring of a business control environment, maintenance of or providing advice/guidance on the Process Risk Control Inventory, execution of the annual risk compliance self -assessment (RCSA) and identification and remediation of any management actions.

  • Experience building, executing, and/or evaluating quality assurance, quality control, and control testing activities.

  • Skilled in initiating, leading, implementing, and tracking progress of continuous improvement activities.

  • Advanced degree (J.D., MBA).

What we offer:

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $99,160.00 - $189,530.00 .

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
