Job Summary

Compass Group, the world’s largest contract foodservice company, has a great opportunity for career development and growth within its Legal Department here at its U.S. headquarters in Charlotte, NC. We are currently seeking a Corporate Counsel to provide legal support to the Compass Technology department, specifically its Vendor Strategy Office ("VSO") which oversees the procurement and management of technology vendors. Compass Group is looking for an individual to play a strategic role in helping the company strike the right balance between commercial goals and legal considerations. A successful candidate will have experience working on a variety of commercial contracting matters, deal negotiation and analysis, contract drafting and advising business unit leaders. A strong sense of partnership and a commercial viewpoint are paramount.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and negotiate a wide range of technology-related contracts, including software subscription and licensing agreements, professional services agreements, hardware and equipment agreements, payment services agreements, and other ancillary agreements.

  • Provide legal advice and support to the VSO regarding vendor onboarding due diligence, risk assessments, and ongoing management of critical vendor relationships.

  • Work closely with the VSO to understand business needs and ensure contract templates are aligned with company objectives and legal requirements, which includes ongoing refinement of existing templates and development of new templates.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including cybersecurity, quality assurance, finance, compliance, and risk management, to address legal issues related to technology vendor procurement and management.

  • Work closely with the Compass Privacy Team to identify and address privacy-related considerations related to technology vendor solutions.

  • Stay updated with changes in privacy laws, artificial intelligence and other legal trends related to technology, and provide routine training to VSO team members on legal updates impacting technology solutions.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of vendor procurement processes and monitor key operational controls and policies related to vendor management.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA accredited law school with accompanying state licensure.

  • Extensive experience in the essential job duties described above, developed either at a law firm or as part of an in-house legal department, is preferred.

  • Knowledge of enterprise technology solutions with a strong understanding of contracts related to software and technology services is preferred.

  • Proven ability in the following: proactively seeking and executing creative solutions, providing strong customer service, and partnering and communicating effectively with clients and colleagues.

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret laws, rules and regulations, legal documents, and financial and other reports, with experience in the principles, practices and laws associated with procurement related matters.

  • Ability to anticipate, recognize and define problems from both a legal and overall corporate perspective, collect data, establish facts, and draw logical and valid conclusions based on sound legal and business judgment.

  • Team player in a fast paced, high volume and constantly changing environment.
