Humana Director, Civic Engagement in Charleston, West Virginia

Director, Civic Engagement will create and manage an integrated, enterprise-wide strategy to shape and deliver strategic community engagement that create innovative value and shared wins for communities, company leaders, policymakers, communities/patients we serve, and the general public. They will set the civic engagement strategy, provide guidance for local civic engagement initiatives in key markets, handle civic engagement on behalf of the company and the Humana Foundation (where appropriate), and build internal and external brand around the company's non-profit community partnerships.

The Director, Civic Engagement will lead the centralized function to oversee how Humana leaders and non-profits to engage with and mobilize in civic engagement activities within markets, including initiatives relating to placement of Humana associates on non-profit boards, tracking and oversight of non-business line non-profit partnerships processes and procedures, and ownership of certain civic engagement initiatives. In addition, they will serve as a liaison between Humana Inc. and Humana Foundation on certain civic programming.

The successful candidate will have experience executing community-wide civic engagement, as well as experience telling the story of how this civic engagement relates to the company's goals and brand. The candidate will need to understand how to work with non-profit partners and how to develop and management local sponsorships. A strong ability to manage through influence is a must.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading a team responsible for developing and executing certain geography-specific civic engagement plans

  • Developing centralized model for local/market-specific ownership of civic engagement strategics

  • Tracking and managing Humana board engagement in key markets

  • Developing and overseeing certain civic engagement programs, including Humana Community Day

  • Coordinating with non-profit partners ​on certain events and activities aligned to Humana and Humana Foundation's community brand

  • Serving as an external spokesperson on Humana and Humana Foundation civic engagement projects

  • Working with closely with Humana Foundation, Legal (including Environmental, Social, and Governance; Sustainability), Corporate/Government Affairs, Human Resources, Finance and Corporate Communications/Associate Communications

  • Regular review and assessment of market specific activities

  • Working cross-functionally

  • Role will require 10-20% travel

Role Essentials

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 5-7 or more years of experience in philanthropy, community engagement, environmental, social, and governance, and/or corporate communications; other relevant experience also to be considered

  • Experience working with outside partners and communicating company vision to internal and external stakeholders

  • Strong analytical and project management skills

  • Excellent relationship-building skills and proven ability to work collaboratively through various departments and functional areas, promoting a culture of teamwork

  • Experience working in a matrixed organization

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, including the polish, poise, and executive presence that will ensure effective interaction with senior and executive level audiences, as well as external audiences

  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Power Point, and Excel

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision within the role and scope

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.$164,700 - $226,600 per yearThis job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
