Schedule:

8:00am to 4:30pm to include weekends on an as needed basis.

Job Summary: To provide a continuum of services, including prevention, identification, diagnosis, consultation and treatment of patients regarding speech, language, voice, cognitive – linguistic, and swallowing disorders. Provides test interpretation and clinical advice, which requires regular contact with patients, families, hospital staff and physicians. The Speech Therapist evaluates, assesses and establishes a treatment plan to meet the speech, language and/or oral-motor needs of the client. The Speech Therapist is responsible for determining and recommending functional communication systems for use by the patient as well as additional studies to evaluate swallowing and oral-motor functioning.

To promote the profession of Speech Language Pathology by providing education to students, hospital staff, and other professions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Master’s in Speech/Language Pathology from an accredited college/university.

Experience: N/A.

Licensure/certification: Current licensure to practice speech language pathology in the state of South Carolina is required. Holds the certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA or is in the CFY process. Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card.

Knowledge/Skills: Requires the ability to work well with all levels of patients, the public and other health care professionals. Must be able to communicate effectively with people of various cultural and educational backgrounds.

Other: Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of all work related and sensitive information. Requires a mature individual who projects themselves in a professional manner.

For positions in Home Health only -requires operation of a vehicle for Roper St. Francis Healthcare business. Due to this job requirement, the selected candidate/employee must possess a valid, current driver's license. In addition, the selected candidate/employee must be insurable under the Roper St. Francis Healthcare vehicle insurance plan, which will be verified by reviewing licensure and driving record.

Contacts: Constant interaction with internal and external customers to include (but not limited to) patients, families, physicians, employees and visitors.

Work Demands/Environment

Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping. Frequent lifting/moving patients. Intermittent lifting, moving or carrying, pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant reaching with hands/arms. Frequent talking or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Intermittent exposure to risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Moderate noise level in work area. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours. May be required to take call and/or work weekends/holidays based on the needs of the department. Home Health positions may also be exposed to unclean environments, toxic substances, pharmaceutical preparations, hazardous and unsafe driving conditions, and other conditions common to delivery of health care in the community.
