Summary:

UNC Therapy Services, the outpatient orthopedic therapy division of the Rehabilitation Services Department at UNC Medical Center, is now accepting applications for a Per Diem Physical Therapist. This role supports multiple locations throughout Chapel Hill and Durham, offering both variable and fixed schedule options based on business needs and employee preferences. Flexibility to cover at multiple locations and a commitment to consistently offer over 20 hours are highly valued. Our clinics operate Monday through Saturday from 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM, providing a wide range of potential work opportunities throughout the Triangle.

In this position, you'll join a collaborative team of physical therapists and orthopedic residents working in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment. Your role extends to collaborating with our extensive team of outpatient therapy providers, including allied health professionals, nurses, physicians, and advanced practice providers.

As a Physical Therapist, you will be responsible for providing evidence-based evaluations, ongoing assessments, planning, and treatment that span the entire spectrum of dysfunction and disability within the outpatient orthopedic environment. You will engage in one-on-one care with 45-minute evaluations and treatments, ensuring a patient-centered and personalized approach. You will also complete the necessary administrative tasks to facilitate the patient care experience, including comprehensive documentation.

Ideal candidates should possess exceptional time management, communication, and organizational skills. Prior clinical experience in outpatient orthopedics is preferred but not mandatory. The selected candidate will have flexible scheduling options based on business needs, with potential clinic hours available from Monday through Saturday, 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM.

Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Care: Provide comprehensive and evidence-based rehabilitative care to patients, encompassing patient assessment, evaluation, treatment, planning, and the associated administrative tasks.

  2. Diagnostic Testing: Conduct both basic and complex diagnostic tests and evaluations, focusing on the treatment of mobility disorders and related impairments. Utilize a range of testing methods to accurately assess patient needs and treatment options.

  3. Evaluation of Care: Analyze results from diagnostic and therapeutic testing to establish and modify patient goals and treatment programs. Focus on identifying expected patient outcomes and communicate key information to ensure continuity of care.

  4. Implementation: Employ current and advanced treatment techniques to offer high-quality, efficient rehabilitative services. Provide both habilitation and rehabilitation, and organize patient care, prioritizing their needs and those of their families.

  5. Participation: Actively contribute to the quality of clinical services by participating in departmental meetings and in-service training as requested by management. Your involvement is crucial to maintaining high standards of care and service delivery.

  6. Quality: Uphold the quality of clinical services through meticulous maintenance of valid and reliable records of patient procedures and progress. Engage in quality improvement initiatives alongside departmental leaders, clinical specialists, and other healthcare professionals. Play a role in continuous quality improvement efforts.

Education Requirements:

● Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy program.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

● Licensed as a Physical Therapist in the state of North Carolina.

● BLS

Professional Experience Requirements:

● No prior experience required. Expertise in outpatient orthopedics is preferred but not mandatory. New graduates and those with experience in various settings are encouraged to apply.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

  • Experience or interest in orthopedics and sports medicine.

  • Ability to evaluate and treat a diverse patient population, including orthopedic, geriatric, and sports medicine patients.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent documentation skills and proficiency with complex EMR systems.

  • Self-directed and independent learner.

  • Motivated to seek out learning and growth opportunities in outpatient orthopedics and sports medicine.
