Accounting Specialist

Overview: Our client in Chapel Hill is looking for an Accounting Specialist to join their team. The role involves supporting accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), payroll, vendor relations, and various administrative tasks. The Accounting Specialist will ensure the accuracy of daily financial activities through data entry and posting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of accounts payable and vendor communications.

  • Record and approve vendor invoices and payments accurately and promptly using online platforms and accounts payable systems.

  • Classify expenses correctly according to GAAP, department policies, and company budget.

  • Collect and maintain vendor tax information (W-9) and prepare annual 1099 forms.

  • Complete vendor/credit applications as needed.

  • Handle all accounts receivable functions, including posting transactions, payments, and processing monthly statements.

  • Address and resolve member billing inquiries.

  • Prepare and process bank and electronic deposits.

  • Retrieve, open, and sort incoming mail daily.

  • Process bi-weekly payrolls and associated journal entries.

  • Assist with compliance reporting in collaboration with the Director of People & Culture.

  • Maintain professional relationships with members, vendors, and staff.

    Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in accounting or equivalent preferred.

  • 2+ years of related accounting experience preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines.

  • Proficiency with computer systems and ability to learn multiple software applications.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ADP preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and problem-solving abilities.

  • Strong work ethic, integrity, and reliability.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
