MTC Grievance Lieutenant in Chaparral, New Mexico

Annual Salary starting at $55,000

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm

What you'll do : The Grievance Lieutenant is responsible for conducting review of non-citizens' grievances to ensure compliance with MTC and customer directives.

Essential Functions:

  1. Investigate non-citizens' grievances about reported and suspected violations of statutes, rules or regulations.

  2. Review investigation results with the warden and determine if there is sufficient evidence to support the charge in disciplinary hearings.

  3. Identify, gather and examine agency records.

  4. Identify, contact and interview potential witnesses by taking statements from witnesses and complainants.

  5. Prepare comprehensive and detailed investigative reports; maintain appropriate grievance data and analyze trends.

  6. Testify at hearings or in court; present evidence of violations; if appropriate, serve as a witness.

  7. Maintain confidentiality in the course of conducting investigations and in everyday activities.

  8. Ensure all facts are introduced and creditable.

  9. Ensure the narrative report describes the offense(s) with which the non-citizen is charged, and that any reasonable person can understand.

  10. Write requests for extensions.

  11. Call witnesses as necessary to present evidence.

  12. Question witnesses via telephone or in person; record statements.

  13. Interview informants and determine how knowledge was gained.

  14. Protect the identity of informants for security reasons.

  15. Ensure non-citizen rights are not violated.

  16. Serves as shift supervisor when needed.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Three (3) years of correctional custody or law enforcement experience, one (1) of which must be in a supervisory capacity required.

  • Valid driver's license in the state of New Mexico or Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
