Basic Eligibility For A Position With The NRO

 

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen

  • You must be 18 years of age or older

  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance

  • You will be subject to pre-employment and periodic drug testing

    Where You Will Work 

    The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is an independent office reporting to the Director, National Reconnaissance Office (DNRO) and Congress. The Inspector General (IG) is appointed by the President with the advice and consent of the Senate. The OIG is responsible for conducting audits, inspections, investigations, and special reviews related to NRO programs and operations; providing leadership with recommendations to promote economy, efficiency and effectiveness; preventing and detecting fraud, waste and abuse in NRO programs and operations; and providing a means to keep the DNRO and the Congress fully and currently informed of issues concerning fraud and other serious problems, abuses and deficiencies in NRO's programs or operations.

As an Inspector General Auditor, your work will help the NRO effectively and efficiently carry out its vital national security mission. Your work will also promote good stewardship of NRO resources and help detect and deter fraud, waste, and abuse.

    What You Will Be Doing 

    As an Inspector General Auditor with the NRO, you will use your analytic and critical thinking skills to evaluate all aspects of NRO programs, operations, and activities including strategy, risk, financial resources, procurement, project management, information technology, security, logistics, human resources, and compliance with laws and regulations. 

    Inspector General Auditor responsibilities include:

     

  • Developing and carrying out audit programs.

  • Analyzing quantitative and qualitative data, documenting analysis and conclusions.

  • Presenting results in meetings with NRO officials and in written reports.

  • Providing recommendations designed to promoted effectiveness, efficiency, and accountability in the administration of NRO programs, operations, and activities.

  • Auditors will also conduct or support other OIG functions as required.

  • Travel may be required.

    What You Need 

     

  • BS/BA degree in business management, program management, business, finance, or other relevant discipline.

  • Demonstrated excellent written communication skills, including the ability to write clearly, accurately, and precisely.

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex information.

  • Demonstrated excellent analytic and critical thinking skills, including the ability to assemble and assimilate large volumes of quantitative and qualitative data, decipher trends, identify key issues and associated root causes, and draw appropriate conclusions.

  • Ability to travel (up to 10%), domestically and overseas.

    Highly Desired 

     

  • Advanced degree in finance, accounting, business management, economics, information systems, public administration or relevant Professional certifications such as Certified Public Accountant, Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Information System Auditor, Certified Government Financial Manager, Certified Project Management Professional, or Certified Internal Auditor.

  • Experience with government auditing, program evaluation, contracting, government project management, or information systems.

    Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform and is typically in or directly related to the duties of the position as described above. Experience must be reflected in your resume. 

    Other Information

     

  • Overtime Statement: MAY be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

  • Travel Statement: MAY be required to travel in military or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments.

  • Financial Disclosure: MAY be required to file an OGE Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, upon appointment and will be required to file annually.

    Salary

    2024 salary range for the Washington, DC area:

    GG-09: $68, 405 – $88,926. 

    GG-11: $82,764 – $107,590. 

    GG-12: $99,200 – $128,956. 

    GG-13: $117,962 – $153,354. 

    **This position is an entry/full performance level DCIPS position. The NRO is accepting applications from U.S. Citizens and current federal government employees for this position. To qualify for the position, federal government employees MUST currently be at the GG – 9/11/12/13 grade level and may ONLY apply for a lateral reassignment at their current grade level and step. Federal applicants who exceed the advertised grade may voluntarily request acceptance at the lower grade per IAW DoD 1400.25 Volume 2006.

    Hiring Incentives

    The NRO may offer hiring incentives and other entitlements at management’s discretion.

    Trial Period

    All new DCIPS employees (https://dcips.defense.gov/) will be required to serve a 2-year trial period.
