ManTech Lead Digital Forensics Engineer in Chantilly, Virginia

ManTech is seeking an experienced and creative Lead Digital Forensics Engineer to lead our team of highly specialized engineers in Chantilly, VA. Highly visible and well respected within the Intelligence Community (IC), our team is often the "last resort" of digital forensic technical specialists, called upon to solve problems that nobody else in the IC can solve. For this reason, we are not seeking candidates that simply check the boxes on a list of qualifications. Instead, we are looking for candidate who meet the requirements and thrive on creatively solving complex problems, researching and learning new technologies quickly, and implementing novel solutions that no one else has considered.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead a team of forensic engineers and provide mentoring and guidance on a number of advanced forensic concepts, such as analyzing unknown file formats, recovering RAIDs, and investigating host-based systems for malicious files.

  • Manage a queue of cases to ensure that all tasks are being completed in a timely manner.

  • Assist in shaping case requirements and consulting with prospective requestors to ensure that requirements suit the team’s capabilities and that the requestor’s goals are well understood.

  • Take the lead in communicating with internal and external partners to ensure the right teams are working on the right tasks.

Basic Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience conducting forensic investigations on a variety of systems, including experience with reverse engineering unknown file formats, recovering RAIDs, and conducting malware investigations.

  • Experience leading a team with a wide range of experience levels; from beginner to expert.

  • Experience using forensic investigation tools such as X-Ways, FTK, and Axiom.

  • Experience writing scripts in Python to extend the functionality of forensic tools, such as X-Ways X-Tensions, Encase Enscripts, or other similar plug-ins.

  • Ability to demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills, including the ability discuss technical topics with audiences across a wide range of technical and non-technical backgrounds.

  • Active/Current TS/SCI with polygraph clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics, or similar technical field of study or 4 additional years of experience in lieu of degree.

  • Experience with data recovery

  • Experience with scripting and development using primarily Python, but also C, C++ and other languages.

  • Ability to demonstrate excellent critical and abstract thinking skills and the ability to leverage creativity to solve complex technical problems.

Security Clearance Requirements:

  • Active TS/SCI with Polygraph
