Job Summary:

Location: Pecos Campus and Williams Campus

The Lab Manager (Instructional Services Coordinator Sr.) will oversee the Biological Sciences Division laboratory support programs at both campuses which includes overseeing lab safety, waste management, equipment maintenance schedules, vendor relationships, and will supervise the laboratory prep needs. Biology has course setups for Environmental/Sustainability Sciences, General Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Microbiology.

Essential Functions:

40% - Plans, organizes, and assigns the work of staff; if serving as a lead worker plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews, and evaluates the work of staff

20% - Develops policies and procedures related to the assigned program

  • Monitors program guidelines to ensure safety compliance
  • Provides training and guidance in areas of expertise

20% - Performs program administration or project management including operational planning, budget administration, problem-resolution, and technical assistance

  • Assists in the development, administration, and monitoring of assigned program budget
  • Assists with and oversees the maintenance of files, records, program materials, and documentation
  • Maintains budget records and monitors expenditures; assists with evaluating the need for capital equipment purchases

10% - Organizes, prepares, and oversees the maintenance, cleanliness, and functionality of laboratory supplies, equipment, materials, repair, and physical arrangement

  • Plans and coordinates the installation and maintenance of required chemicals, supplies and/or equipment
  • Reviews inventory needs, communicates with vendors, and initiates ordering and purchasing of equipment and supplies

5% - Oversees the setup and removal of laboratory equipment and supplies for learning exercises and experiments

  • Coordinates scheduling; collaborates with faculty, and staff to maintain manuals and/or educational materials

2.5% - Participates in hiring, discipline, and termination activities if assigned to supervision

2.5% - Performs other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Bachelorof science or higher degree in a biological sciences discipline from a regionally accredited institution
  2. Demonstratedexperience with lab safety procedures, including safe handling, storage, and correct disposal of hazardous biological and chemical materials, and knowledge of the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  3. Demonstratedsuccessful completion of an OSHA Safety Institute class or a comparable lab safety program (such as an LSI 3-day course)
  4. Twoor more years of experience with direct supervision of laboratory operations, and maintenance of scientific instrumentation such as autoclaves, incubators, hot water baths, safety showers, eye wash stations, etc.
  5. Twoor more years of experience managing others on science laboratory projects.
  6. Two or more years of experience in collaborating, assisting, or supporting faculty who teach Biological sciences courses
  7. Documented experience with computer applications used for

(1) ordering and purchasing supplies,

(2) maintaining inventories,

(3) for electronic communication, and

(4) managing budgets

Special Working Conditions:

May be required to work at multiple sites or locations
