Geotechnical Engineering Manager

Job Summary:

As a Geotechnical Engineering Manager, you’ll have a highly visible role within the business leading the design of the solar tracker foundations for Array’s global market. This involves managing a centralized team as well as functional oversight for engineers focused on specific markets as part of a matrix organization. You will be responsible for the owning parts of the workflows in the Pre-Sales, Contract Prep and Post-Contract processes, providing preliminary designs, final designs and Issued For Construction engineering deliverables. This position may require occasional evening and weekend hours as well as infrequent travel. You will:

Key Job Responsibilities:

Manage a team of engineers responsible for:

  • Assessing geotechnical and structural engineering reports to prepare preliminary foundation designs

  • Preparing a BOM of the various foundation products required for the solar plant

  • Managing foundation design and BOM changes over the construction phase

  • Coordinating with third-party engineering service providers for foundation design services

  • Preparing grading analysis services

  • Collaborate closely with the Applications Engineering Managers and Civil Structural Engineering Managers to ensure Array’s full scope of technical services leads the market

  • Work regularly with contributors and leaders across the business to ensure engineering processes and capabilities fit within the larger business workflows

  • Provide work prioritization direction to team members as needed based on Array’s larger business priorities

  • Develop expert-level technical knowledge of Array’s product offering and their corresponding applications in the geotechnical engineering field

  • Prepare grading analysis estimates and coordinate with the Civil EOR on grading requirements related to the tracker installation

  • Prepare and approve project-specific Pull Out Test scope of work documents

  • Manage relationships with Professional Engineering and Pull Out Test firms in regions where Array operates

  • Create and deliver technical presentations for customer meetings on geotechnical engineering topics as needed

  • Work with a geographically dispersed team to achieve industry-leading engineering services, establishing standardized geotechnical design criteria for Array’s tracker system offering

  • Build strong technical relationships with customer’s engineering leadership

  • Review, edit and approve technical project requirements in RFPs related to geotechnical engineering and code compliance

  • Address escalated issues, technical or otherwise, from others in the Applications Engineering Group

  • Lead development and support evaluation of tools and software applications used by the Applications Engineering Group

  • Participate in standards organization as needed to drive industry level change on the geotechnical engineering and structural code sectors

  • Own and advance geotechnical engineering and foundation design concepts and methodologies, working with the other engineering disciplines and thought leaders to ensure aggressive, defendable, optimized designs are our first and last offer to our customer

  • Be expected to travel primarily within the US, up to 10%. Infrequent international travel may be required.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a Geotechnical concentration10+ years of experience in a Civil or Geotechnical Engineering role

  • 5+ years of experience in design of driven pile foundations

  • Proficiency in geotechnical analysis applications, preferably LPILE

  • Proficiency in grading analysis with AutoCAD Civil 3D

  • Proficiency interpreting geotechnical data and applying to utility solar applications

  • Expertise in applying local US building codes to optimize foundation designs for utility solar

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s Geotechnical Engineering degree

  • Experience managing a team of engineers, preference on managing a remote team

  • Expertise in applying international building codes to optimize foundation designs for utility solar

  • Recognition as an industry thought leader

  • Ability to work across multiple organizations in a fast paced, smaller company environment
