Nexstar Media Group Operator I, Audio in Champaign, Illinois
The Audio Operator is responsible for various television production duties required for live and recorded broadcasts including sound checks, equipment placement, volume and quality of sound during live and taped productions. The production crew works together running cameras, audio, graphics, teleprompter, and switcher to produce a professional and quality on-air product under the leadership of a director. The department must work closely with news, sports, weather, and lifestyle teams to ensure smooth preparation and execution of a clean production.
Setting up sound and recording equipment, adjusting and testing the equipment
Activating and adjusting various sound sources including microphones, audio playback devices, remote venue sound (live shots), routable sound devices/sources, musical acts, performances, and other sound generating sources
Creating, maintaining, and adjusting proper mix of sound sources in a live and/or recorded environment
Maintaining and managing audio devices and resources such as: audio mixing board, microphones, music playback devices and other sound generating or playback sources
Operates Audio Mixing Board during live broadcasts and during recorded shows
Adjusts positions and controls of cameras to change focus, exposure and lighting as requested by the Newscast Director
Confers with Newscast Directors and other crew and staff members to discuss show rundowns, desired effects, camera movements and lighting requirements
Operates studio cameras or remote cameras during live and recorded productions
Sets up cameras and related equipment
Tests, cleans and maintains camera, lighting, audio, and studio equipment
Produces graphics for broadcasts
Operates graphics and video playback systems for live and recorded productions
Edits video and preforms other post-production tasks for promos and recorded productions
Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements & Skills:
Must be able to perform all duties under high stress situations and conditions
Must have excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Proficiency with computers, telephones, cameras, and other studio/control room equipment
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Ability to lift and move set pieces and equipment up to 40 lbs
Ability to communicate effectively over headsets for extended periods
