Children's Home and Aid Doula (Bilingual Preferred) in Champaign, Illinois

The Doula provides inclusive, in-home visits within a strength-based, family-centered support model to young mothers and fathers who would like support services . The Doula will provide outreach services, prenatal education activities, and assist the family in preparing for childbirth through both home visiting and group based services. As the Doula, you will advocate for the participant families by providing emotional support, parental education, labor and delivery guidance and post partum care.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Establish trusting, nurturing relationships with program participants and their families.

  • Maintain regular contact with participants in their home to provide information, education and resources that will prepare the parent and her family for the birth process and postpartum.

  • Attend and support the laboring mother and their family or support person(s).

  • Assist families in initiating and strengthening the parent-child relationship.

  • Improve family support systems by providing information about community networking and advocacy.

  • Assist identified families in establishing goals and creating a plan for the accomplishment of those goals, including the collaborative development of a birth plan.

  • Assess family functioning for safety and ability of family to care for children; determines appropriate interventions.

  • Develop and facilitate prenatal and postnatal education and parent support groups.

  • Maintain positive working relationships with all members of the agency team, referring agencies, and other community resources.

  • Assist with community outreach efforts, targeting local hospitals and medical staff.

  • Participate in the on-call system, as required by program, including being present for after-hours and weekend births.

Candidate qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in social work or human service, OR Associate's Degree plus completion of Doula certification training, OR Associate's Degree plus two years' relevant social service experience.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Proficient in speaking, reading and writing in English and Spanish preferred.

  • Able to attend in-person family visits and meetings required.

  • Valid driver's license, insurance, and a reliable vehicle required.

Job details:

  • Compensation: Range starts at $21.15/hr; offers are commensurate with experience. B ilingual candidates may receive additional financial compensation.

  • Benefits: Medical/dental/vision insurance, 3+ weeks paid time off in the first year including the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day (PTO increases with tenure); 11 paid holidays, supplemental insurance options, 401(k) with match (more benefits details here (https://brightpoint.org/join-us/careers/brightpoint-benefits/) )

  • Location: Home-based and community-based services provided in the Champaign, Vermilion, Ford, and Piatt counties; may have the opportunity to work remotely from a home or assigned office between visits.

  • Schedule: Full-time, hourly; general business hours with some flexibility required for evening visits and attending after-hours births.
