Summary of Position
The Carpenter is responsible for construction and repairing structural woodwork and equipment under the direction of the Carpenter Supervisor. This is a nonexempt position.

Responsibilities
- Builds, repairs, and installs counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors and building framework.
- Reads and works with blueprints and drawings.
- Conducts regular maintenance work throughout buildings on campus.
- Replaces damaged ceiling tile, floor tile, sheet plastic, wall coverings, and glass or installs new components of these same items.
- Builds custom cabinets and other wooden equipment for campus departments, using woodworking machines. Installs hardware such as hinges, handles, catches, drawer pulls, etc.
- Operates heavy equipment (backhoe, bobcat, road-grader, etc.).
- Builds concrete forms and finishes the surfaces of poured concrete.
- Installs drywall/wall board and tapes, smooths and textures same.
- Assembles office equipment, cabinets, shelving and furniture.
- Complies with all safety and health requirements whether established by management or by federal, state, or local laws.
- Performs other responsibilities as required by the Carpenter Supervisor.
Qualifications
? High School Degree or equivalent ? Experience preferred ? Valid South Dakota Drivers License
Physical Demands
? Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 30 lbs. ? Occasionally exerts up to 50 lbs. of force ? Regularly bends, stoops, crouches, and climbs stairs ? Must have ability to stand for prolonged periods ? Must have the capability to apply self physically over long periods of time ? Uses the abdominal and lower back muscles for support repeatedly over time without becoming fatigued ? Position requires working outdoors in summer and winter
