MTC Director, Behavioral Health Services in Centerville, Utah

Position Summary:

Reports to the Regional Facility Administrator (Behavioral Health). Manage the corrections behavioral health services and programs. Work closely with the Corporate Medical Team and Health Services Administrators, as well as corrections programs and Engaged Learning.

Essential Functions:

  • Select, design, and implement curricula for staff training and resident programs that align with core correctional practices.

  • Identify and collaborate with external stakeholders to establish and maintain re-entry and other resources.

  • Lead and/or support the implementation of departmental initiatives related to behavioral health.

  • Provide ongoing training and support for mental health and programs staff.

  • Coordinate staff care teams and ensure ongoing training, leadership, and oversight of the teams, as well as related policy updates as needed.

  • Maintain multidisciplinary teams to form a comprehensive approach to risk and need and other behavioral health assessment practices and appropriate matching to behavioral health services.

  • Travel to correctional, detention, and other facilities or programs sites, the MTC corporate office, training locations, and other events for the purpose of conducting MTC business.

  • Assist with completing internal audits related to facility culture, programs, and other aspects of facility operations related to behavioral health services.

  • Identify and monitor data for internal data system and create performance measures for programming, mental health, and individual outcomes.

  • Review programs and mental health audit findings and assist in developing comprehensive plans to inform behavioral health service policies and practices.

  • Develop innovative, evidence-based strategies to incorporate into new proposals and contracts.

  • Assist in developing and implementing new and revised policies and procedures affecting behavioral health services. Coordinate with other departments to ensure compliance with overall facility objectives and customer requirements.

  • Maintain accountability of property; adhere to safety practices.

  • It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Doctorate or master’s degree in a helping profession (e.g. psychology, counseling, social work) and full-time clinical experience providing behavioral health services to justice-involved populations for at least five years.

  • A license to practice behavioral health services in at least one state is required.

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Must have conducted formal training for staff related to direct service delivery to justice-involved individuals.

  • Must have a strong foundation and understanding of the Risk, Need, and Responsivity (RNR) Model and the Principles of Effective Intervention in addition to core correctional practices.

  • Experience aligning services to the Principles of Effective Intervention model is required.
