Carmeuse Americas Lab Supervisor - Cedarville & Drummond Island Operations in CEDARVILLE, Michigan

Job Summary: The Lab Supervisor ensures that the quality of products produced at the plants meets customers’ expectations and quality specs, oversees the operation of the laboratories, and supervises the lab technicians in the testing of raw materials and the product in its various stages required for quality control of processes or products. In addition, this position compiles, analyzes and interprets results for plant and customer reporting. This position also troubleshoots both lab issues and production issue and assists in maintaining ISO/Carmeuse System for Management; maintain plant quality control plan; provide necessary training and ensure a safe working environment. This position will report to the Site Operations Manager and work in coordination with the Area Quality Assurance Manager.

Responsibilities:

Provide leadership to lab and hourly personnel to ensure safety rules are followed – facilitated through monthly safety talks, daily tool box talks, safety inspections and random supervisor audits

  • Work closely with the plant teams to ensure successful production of finished products (from quarry to limestone and aggregate) and delivery to the customers

  • Provide statistical analysis on quality and operations data supporting the success of the plant team

  • Communicate data analysis with various functional teams including sales and operations and work together with those teams in successfully supplying material to customers

  • Lead the laboratory team to continuously improve personal performance and complete performance evaluations of laboratory personnel on a semi-annual and annual basis

  • Ensure regulatory requirements are met with regards to chemical disposal, proper PPE when handling chemicals

  • Daily production of MACs from SAP and extensive SAP laboratory responsibilities

  • Customer reporting can include daily, weekly and monthly

  • X-ray analysis

  • Safety contacts

  • Coordination of lab testing equipment maintenance and calibration

  • Schedule external/internal lab services and order lab consumables

  • Research best application methods for lab analysis as well as best equipment to use for the chosen application

  • Fulfill customer requests – additional analysis, samples to be sent out

  • Enter inspection plans, profiles and profile assignments into SAP

  • Update customer guidelines

  • Aggregate level I & II certification

  • S-5 water certification

Basic Requirements:

  • 3+ supervisory experience with strong leadership skills

  • Minimum 5 years laboratory progressive experience in an industrial manufacturing environment

  • Prior experience demonstrating effective management skills, knowledge of continuous manufacturing sector.

  • Statistical knowledge in chemistry & physics understanding.

  • Prior experience in, or knowledge of, ISO is preferred.

  • Strong math and organizational skills along with ability to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical procedures; strong computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and ability to learn SAP.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently while also operating in a team environment with friendly, proactive, and assertive nature.

  • High level of integrity motivation

  • Must be punctual and able to meet deadlines.

  • Fluency in spoken and written English

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of operational management

  • Knowledge of people management skills

  • Experience in mining and/or heavy manufacturing industry

  • Technical creditability as it relates to industry

  • Possesses strong analytical thinking skills to provide a logical, in-depth analysis of a problem or situation.
