Job Description
The 6th Judicial District of the Iowa Judicial Branch is seeking candidates for a Judicial Specialist 2 position in the Linn County Clerk of Court office located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The position is in the accounting/jury department. In this position we are looking for someone who enjoys working with numbers, is very detail-oriented, has a keen ability to problem solve, has excellent critical thinking skills, and enjoys working with the public. This position will include basic accounting skills and the desire to learn accounting procedures unique to the Judicial Branch. The Iowa Judicial Branch is an EEO/AA and E-Verify Employer. Job Duties include but are not limited to:
Daily balancing of previous day’s business
Preparing bank deposit
Preparing End of Month Bank Reconciliation
Assisting other departments with financial processing
Answering phones
Assisting customers at the counter with financial questions
Interpreting court documents as it relates to financial disbursements
Monitoring financial payment plans
Collaboration with other departments within the clerk’s office
Document processing using our statewide Electronic Document Management System (EDMS)
Assisting judges, attorneys, and outside agencies with financial inquiries

Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from an accredited high school (or High School Equivalency) and two (2) years of successful completion of accredited post high school education in business, paralegal, computer, legal assistant or related program. Two (2) years of professional office experience in business, court or legal work or a related area with one (1) year of the experience involving customer service.
At the discretion of the appointing authority additional years of experience may be substituted for the required post high school education. Or, the successful completion of additional years of education (i.e., Bachelor’s Degree) may be substituted for years of experience on the basis that successful completion of thirty (30) semester hours or academic equivalent equals one year of experience. Education cannot be substituted for customer service experience. Must be bondable.
Final candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check.
