Amazon Specialist Solutions Architect – Database in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong

Are you an experienced Oracle/SQL/NoSQL Server Platform Specialist? Have you worked on Open source Database platforms like PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Casandra, or NoSQL? Have you migrated Applications from one Database Engine to another?

The specialist will collaborate with our customers and partners on key engagements. You will develop and deliver proof-of-concept projects, technical workshops, and support implementation projects in order to migrate Applications from on-premise Oracle/SQL*Server databases to AWS eg. AWS RDS, Aurora-PostgreSQL/MySQL or other Open Source platforms.

You will focus on customer solutions such as high volume OLTP/OLAP environments, designing and deploying future state petabyte-scale data services and building and/or designing reference configurations to enable our customers and influence AWS RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, and other NoSQL databases adoption.

The ideal candidate will be …

  • Hands-on experiences: 10+ years experience with Relational and/or Non-Relational Database implementations, operations, performance tuning, and/or solution deployment experience in a business-critical, high-availability context (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra, and/or Redis).

  • Database Migration experiences: Overall migration plan, Schema/Code migration, Change Data Capture (CDC) plan, resources plan, fallback plan, and etc.

  • Application migration experiences: migration assessments, discovery the dependences, and move monoliths to microservices with decomposition and incremental changes

  • Be an Architect: produce and validate reference architectures and customer adoption for AWS Database services including: Amazon RDS, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon ElastiCache, Amazon Redshift, Amazon DocumentDB, Amazon Keyspaces (for Apache Cassandra), Amazon Neptune, Amazon Timestream, and Amazon QLDB

  • Trusted advisor to customers: Be able to facilitate relationships with senior technical executives, as well as easily interact and give guidance to software developers, IT operations staff, and system architects. Be able to materialize an overall recommendation (or proposal) based on customer needs and efficiently communication– formal presentations, white boarding, large and small group presentations.

  • Vertical knowledge on financial industries, retails, and telco; able to articulate end-to-end information flow of these focused vertical; and have related experience.

  • Have a business consultant capacity to work with customer’s line-of-business owner; explore improvement areas of customer’s business; and priorities’ strong ROI business initiatives with customers.

This role is looking for an experienced individual for the Solutions Architecture organization at AWS, providing an unique opportunity to lead innovations and transformational change with large Enterprise customers in their journey to cloud.

This is HK and Taiwan focused role and can be based in Hong Kong.

Key job responsibilities

  • Work directly with customers’ technical resources to devise and recommend solutions based on the understood requirements. Drive discussions with senior personnel regarding trade-offs, standard methodologies, project management and risk mitigation

  • Think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges in an enterprise environment

  • Analyze database environments such as Oracle/SQL Server, or other Commercial DB Engines to Open Source Engines like Aurora-PostgreSQL/MySQL, DynamoDB, and etc.

  • Work closely with AWS account team, Service Engineering, and Professional Services team to help ensure the success of projects

  • Consult for optimal design of database environments, analyzing complex distributed production deployments, and making recommendations to optimize performance

  • Develop innovative solutions to complex business and technology problems

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of infrastructure architecture, database architecture and networking experience

  • 5+ years of design/implementation/operations/consulting with distributed applications experience

  • 10+ years of provisioning, migrating, and managing end user computing and related services experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within software development or Internet-related industries

  • Experience migrating or transforming legacy customer solutions to the cloud

  • Experience working with AWS technologies from a dev/ops perspective

  • Proficient in verbal and written English, Cantonese and Mandarin
