SUMMARY

The Fabrication Group Lead assists in the development, training, evaluation, and work schedules of both probationary and regular full-time employees within vessel welding, fitting, structural welding, fire tubes, and small parts. This role also provides support to the department supervisor in achieving daily and monthly goals in safety, quality, accuracy and production.

The Group Lead will be responsible for expediting work orders through the manufacturing process, accurate production reporting, and maximizing resources while reducing scrap/rework. The ideal candidate is a highly analytical multi-tasker with excellent organizational, communication, and prioritizing skills and expertise in fitting/welding. This is a working Group Lead position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Regular and punctual attendance at work is an essential job function of each position and is necessary to your individual effectiveness and that of your work group. Regular and punctual attendance is required of all employees.

  • Resolve day to day issues to meet production, safety, shipping and quality goals.

  • Train, develop, and maintain training records on employees and make recommendations for employee advancement.

  • Complete production, scrap, and rework reports.

  • Provide input on disciplinary reports and evaluations. May make recommendations for merit increases.

  • Execute scheduled work orders to meet customer requirements.

  • Conduct pre-shift meetings and delegate daily work assignments.

  • Record daily attendance of employees and submit payroll reports.

  • Assist supervisor in Incident/Accident investigation and reporting.

  • Provide a safe working environment and administer safety program for the assigned area.

  • Act as First Responder for the Plant.

  • Working Group Leads are required to complete work assignments within their area (welding, fitting, small parts, fire tubes, etc.).

  • Other duties as required and assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a manufacturing / production environment required.

  • Minimum of 3 years relevant welding experience required.

  • Previous leadership experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.

  • Basic computer skills required - MS Word and MS Excel; Epicor preferred.

  • Ability to interact in a positive and professional manner with management and other employees to achieve goals.

  • Demonstrated ability to support, promote, and adhere to the Westerman philosophy and Code of Conduct.

  • Demonstrated strong leadership and organizational skills required.

  • Professional communication skills required.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a high-pressure work environment required.

  • Basic ability to troubleshoot production/personnel issues required.

  • First Aid/CPR Training, Emergency Response Training required.

  • On the job training as needed to enhance safety, productivity, and troubleshooting skills.

  • Other duties as required and assigned.

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, up to entire length of shift (10 - 12 hours).

  • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.

  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE.

  • Must be physically able to access all areas of the plant and grounds.

  • Some aspects of this position may require working in tight quarters.

  • Must be physically able to crawl in and out of vessels.

  • Some aspects of this position may require close vision, depth perception, the ability to see small detail, and the ability to adjust focus.
