Position Description

Perform activities necessary as Estimator-Planner for multiple Kinder Morgan Pipeline Project Support crews who perform a broad range of natural gas and products facility projects including high pressure transmission pipeline, metering, storage, gathering, treating, and processing. The preferred reporting location is Casa Grande, AZ, other operation offices within Division 1 may be considered.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and review cost estimates as they pertain to corresponding sketches, and job scopes with the Budget Owner, Project Manager, and Crew Leads.

  • Prepare cost tracking financial project data for monthly, and year end reporting and accruals.

  • Provide estimating services to a project team that may be comprised of internal and external service providers, including but not limited to, Project Managers, Business Development, Engineers, Operations, and Budget Owners.

  • Work with a cross-functional team with tact, courtesy and professionalism, including but not limited to, departments such as Certificates, Legal, Environmental, Safety and Land.

  • Update cost tracking sheets, Master Work Plan, and prepare financial reports.

  • Communicate the status of Project activities to PPS Managers, Crew Leads, Project Managers and business sponsors using written and verbal communications.

  • Estimate and plan projects to assure safety, reliability, environmental and human impacts are mitigated while meeting the project goals, (including but not limited to, Schedule, Budget, Safety and overall quality).

  • Must possess a strong background in all phases of pipeline construction practices including excavation, coating, and welding requirements for upstream, midstream and downstream projects.

  • Document variance explanations for all estimated projects and prepare monthly and year-end forecasts until project completion.

  • Prepare proposal documents, including pricing, qualification information, technical and commercial clarifications, schedules and other supporting information as required by the Project Manager or estimate request.

  • Create and provide project financial reporting to project managers, and budget owners.

  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, for the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.

  • Travel is required and anticipated as 10% - 20% across a broad geographic region.

    Position Requirements

    EDUCATION AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate (Bachelor level) degree or comparable field construction experience.

  • Understanding of basic economic analysis as it pertains to project justification.

  • Knowledge of engineering drawings, and schematics.

  • Must be able to understand the needs of the Project Manager and business unit(s) for which project work is being performed.

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency level in Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other Office Suite general products.

  • Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes.

  • Attention to detail, accuracy, completeness and meeting deadlines and commitments is a must.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including but not limited to the ability to present ideas, proposals and results to business segment leaders and to internal and external customers.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize daily work, including tracking and managing various estimates and managing multiple cost trackers for several projects that are in progress.

  • Must be able to successfully and simultaneously manage multiple tasks, and work with minimal direct supervision.

  • Must possess general understanding of how corporate policies, procedures, practices and processes relate to the Gas Pipeline business segment, associated business units, and internal and external customers.

  • Must be familiar with unit rates, material and equipment pricing, labor pricing and other estimate components and techniques.

  • Ability to identify and establish expectations in an employee/employer relationship (subordinate/manager).

  • Solid leadership, communication, motivation and interpersonal skills, and the ability to estimate projects that will include working with individuals with varying disciplines, backgrounds and experience levels.

  • Must be able to work with a team, take directions from supervisor(s), prioritize work schedules, focus attention on details, maintain a regular and dependable attendance, and follow work rules.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE (ABOVE THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS; NOT REQUIRED, BUT ADVANTAGEOUS IN THIS POSITION):

  • Estimating experience and design of pipelines, meter stations, and plant facilities used for mainline gas transmission service.

  • Experience in the pipeline construction and maintenance field, especially with projects involving hydrostatic testing, anomaly digs, pipe replacements, pipeline recoats, and welding and fabrication projects.

Job level commensurate with knowledge, skills and experience.

The successful candidate will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check, after an offer has been extended and prior to being employed.
