BUHLER INC Welder in Cary, North Carolina

SUMMARY:

Weld various metal alloys using knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, and engineering requirements. Must have the ability to read and understand the various types of engineering drawings and job specifications as related to welding symbols, welding protocol, and have full knowledge of what happens to metal during the welding process e.g. distortion, shrinkage, etc. Must be able to plan and execute the appropriate welding operation insuring that the appropriate precautions are taken during the welding operation even when procedural information is unavailable. Weld quality in all arenas is critical to this position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Reads, understands and works from blueprints and bills of material.

  2. Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.

  3. Tack-welds or welds components with MIG and TIG welding process in all positions.

  4. Has general knowledge of how to lay out, position, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square and tape measures. .

  5. Cuts work pieces using powered saws, portable hand tools and plasma torch as required.

  6. Fabricates and finishes weldments to the appropriate welding tolerances per blueprint.

  7. Performs required duties in a safe environment.

  8. Maintains quality and tolerance requirements consistently.

  9. Inspects welds to print to insure all agree with design requirement and quality specifications.

  10. Removes rough spots from work piece using portable grinder, hand file, or chisel.

  11. Sets welder to proper gas flow, feed rate, weld tip, weld wire, gas blend and amperage requirement.

  12. Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.

  13. Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  1. Accepts and performs all other duties assigned by immediate supervisor. To include any and all jobs or tasks that may not be directly related to this job classification.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: (Desired education and experience)

  1. Vocational training in blue print reading, basic machining, welding, basic quality control.

  2. Minimum of one year of vocational training or equivalent or two years work experience.

Mechanical -- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Design -- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. Building and Construction -- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in fabrication

Engineering and Technology -- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services. Production and Processing -- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
